Phone size comparison: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/...,8744,7710

Sony EPP(Student/Corporate) = 10% off

Stack with Discover 5% rotating (Internet purchases 4th quarter)

Probably can't stack with ShopDiscover portal (another 5%)

D5803

Att: 100% LTE (2,4,5,17), 100% 2G/3G

T-Mobile: works on the two main LTE bands(2,4), missing the 700mhz band 12, 100% 2G/3G

No sprint or Verizon.

ED: It is in fact compatible with Verizon's 4G bands. However, it does not support its legacy 3G or 1X CDMA networks, which are required for calling and texting. Verizon is rolling out VoLTE, but on a rolling basis on select phones only. You can try porting your number to a VoIP/text service and see if that works for you.

Regarding $100 credit card offer:

Personally, I think this is a terrible deal. There are often other card offers that give 50k-70k points equivalent to at least $500 worth of credit.

New as of 11/3/2014 - AMEX has $25 off $100 with AMEX Offer! It pays to procrastinate. Offer is good in-store and online. May be YMMV. Confirmed on AMEX Gold & SPG.

except for warranty issues

Sony EPP (Student or corporate discount) plus 5% Discover cashback from internet purchases will be worth it (close to $480 as well). the ShopDiscover portal 5% cashback probably wont stack with EPP

can you explain why there would be warranty issues? i'm genuinely interested

they're new, sealed in box.

not that sony's warranty is any good to begin with Frown

It's not about warranty issues only - restocking fees on ebay + ebay dispute policies both don't work in your favor. Always liked ebay but had two problems with them and would never buy an expensive item from there again, if it's offered somewhere else. Did once return an item from Sony.com and it was ok process.
With a phone like this, I don't know if I'll be returning it - bought Z1 compact just to realize that the bezels + soft buttons + 9.6mm thickness all results in a huge phone for what it it offers - 4" LCD effectively. Returned it. If they really didn't fix the camera here I'll be returning this one as well.

those on ebay typically are sold from Europe, so you'll need to contact Sony Europe for warranty issues.

Some people buy through Clove UK, they say they'll handle any warranty issues via you shipping back to Clove (then they'll deal with warranty).

Some people were able to get Sony USA to deal with the warranty. YMMV

I really want a small phone, and this looks great. (Currently using AT&T Note3) I wonder how much the price will drop in 6 months when my contract ends.

Here's a good comparison between z1 compact:

You're right I should wait. This phone should definitely drop in price by the time the holiday season rolls by. I'll get it then...
