Anyone done it? If so what are you using for movies, tv shows, etc? ( not torrent sites Stick Out Tongue )

I'm cancelling cable and was wondering what everyone uses these days. Hulu, Netflix, HD Antenna, Chromecast, Roku? Dontknow

What's wrong with programming it like a VCR? I can lookup TV schedules on the internet and plan accordingly.

For around the same money you can get one with Hi-DEF, it just won't have a DVD burner. Also, ones with smaller hard drives are available for less money (or at least used to be).

The DVR I recommend would not have any monthly fee or require a phone or internet connection, unlike your TIVO. Some of us actually hate monthly fees. Even if you get TIVO lifetime, it's $700 according to their website, and that's way more.
Programming it by name is SO much easier. Programming it like a vcr is a real pain in the ass. What if schedules change? You have to reprogram it. What if the show isn't on this week? You have to reprogram it. What if you are out for whatever reason, and remember you forgot to program it or hear about a show that is airing that night and you wont be home in time to program it? So many instances where you have to interact with the machine to make sure it records properly. With a tivo you tell it to record "x" show, and it records "x" show whenever it is on. Doesn't matter if they change the schedule or not, as long as it is listed in the guide, it will record it. Now, don't get me wrong. VCRs were great tech. In the 80s and even early 90s.

Not sure where you are getting your pricing, as it seems to have no basis in fact. Lifetime is only $500 as advertised on their site. Can be had very easily for $400. plus the $150 for the Roamio basic, and you get a total of $550, like I stated previously. Which is only $100 more than the linked unit, and much more usable and user friendly.

Thanks, I'm thinking someone may have got upset that you replied... maybe someone lacking in a certain department. laugh out loud

Anyway it was fun, thanks.

What I found funny was the fact that I had no idea who was a mod and who wasn't -
and the fact that it never even occurred to me to check, or even care, is something amazing. Smilie
