I'd say mostly for cutting metal (pipes, angle iron, etc..). Sometimes they're also referred to as chop saws.

If you are going to do any iron work this would be handy. Ie making your own gates

18.0 amps is more then adequate. For comparison the Craftsman is 15.0 amps.

So tempted to get this as I'm currently cutting a bunch of iron balusters using a jig saw with metal blade (it works surprisingly well though).
