I'm returning both Fire TV sticks.

Fire TV apparently cannot play YouTube Live videos.

For example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYlQJbsVs48

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I-uZ2iml_s

These are live streaming videos. They all play perfectly on PS3, PS4, smartphones(both Android and iOS), Roku, and obviously my laptop and desktop computers.

Fire TV can't play any of them, so I have no choice but to initiate a return. Frown

This is a Preorder. There is no point asking specific (performance, app compatibility, etc) questions about this device.

Currently no HBO Go; however, it's expected to be included by the end of the year.

(Although the release only describes "Fire TV" with no mention of the "Fire Stick" which at the time of this release I assume did not exist.)

Also, Plex officially partnered with them this year https://plex.tv/amazonfiretv

VUDU is not available on this device. Flixster is available on this device which links to your UV library. Selection somewhat limited. Amazon has hinted they may have their own UV option some time in the future.

Amazon said it can mirror the screen from Android tablet or phone to HDTV, and it includes a remote that can play games (vs. Chromecast has no remote).
It supports voice search via free Fire TV Remote App on Android tablet or phone, optional $29.99 Amazon Fire TV Voice Remote, and iOS app is coming soon.

* Mirror your tablet or phone on your HDTV
Share whatever is on your screen, including movies, TV shows, music, and photos from your compatible tablet or phone with everyone in your living room using display mirroring. What you see on your Fire OS or Android device is exactly what you'll see on your big screen, including support for devices from Motorola, Samsung, LG, and Google without any additional apps or software.

* Voice search on the Fire TV Remote App
[Free] Download the Fire TV Remote App on your Android device (coming soon to iOS) to instantly search TV shows, movies, actors, and genres using just your voice--no more typing with your remote to find what you want.

[$29.99] Voice search is also available with the Amazon Fire TV Voice Remote (sold separately)

Amazon will probably ship Fire TV Stick with new FW that cannot be hacked/rooted using existing method,
so it cannot use custom FW below until someone find a new way to hack it (assuming it can be hacked).

Posting this link to adbFire [xda-developers.com] for any interested in full control (root, custom recovery, etc.). Extremely easy to use AND available for linux (including mac), Windows being the most popular. (Don't forget to tip the devs.) ~q2n

Wondering about XBMC... you can consider SPMC

http://www.amazon.com/Semperpax-S...B00MK49LL8

The latest Fire TV boxes are not rootable and do not work with SPMC or XBMC. The current FireTv boxes are rootable as long as you don't allow it to upgrade to the latest firmware. <---- You don't need root to run XBMC on the FireTV We don't even know if the stick is rootable but I doubt it will be. Do not buy this if that is your primary purpose. <--Rooting allows you to bypass the Fire TV OS and directly open XBMC (ie. launch XBMC without going through the amazon fire tv stuff)
For XBMC noobs... TVMC for Android [tvaddons.ag] This Android app sets up all the best Repos. Just install & watch. Here is how to sideloaded: http://www.tvaddons.ag/install-ko...n-fire-tv/
