oh i see now, i was thinking the value was based upon the old sting. i.e. minis vs. larger lights.

I used to do this, but the prices on the LEDs (warm white) kept going up and the quality down. Got to be where I would have to be there on day one for the 10 GE LED lights they had in stock and I would pay like $10 after coupon.

If you need more, you can cut a couple of old strings in half to turn in "more strings" and they don't care.

I get the GE LED strings at Costco now without the trade in/coupon cheaper/easier.

Do the strings have to be working? I have dozens of half-lit strings.

Agreed -- the new sets have very high MSRPs and you're doing a discount of a few bucks off of a $20 or $30 set. So it's making you "feel good" about recycling old sets when you're basically getting 10-20% off of a high retail price. I was excited about this deal when I saw something similar last year until I looked into the details and realized.. "never mind."

I tend to buy these sets just before or even after the Holidays (50/75%, sometimes even 90%). I guess if you were in the market for a high-retail-price set now, this discount would be OK.

I got mine last year from target when it was 90% off. No way I'm paying $20 for lights that will not last long.

Will they apply 5 credits to 1 new string when recycling 5 old ones, or is it 1 credit per new string purchase up to 5 new strings?

I gotta say thumbs down. I haven't looked specifically at their prices but I'm sure they are pretty close to retail. There will be sales and markdowns as it gets closer.

So if I cut my strings into 100 pieces each will I get 100 times the discount?

Might check this out. Will they just take the sets to recycle if I don't buy anything?
