Thread Details

Over on the TiVo forums several people have had success getting the following deals on a TiVo Romio including lifetime

Base Roamio w/lifetime service $200 for the unit and $200 for the lifetime service
Plus - $400 for the unit and $100 for lifetime service
Pro - $600 for the unit and $100 for lifetime service

The key seems to be that you must have been a TiVo customer for at least 10 years. It might be less, but so far everyone who has had success has been a customer for more than 10.

I called and said that several months ago they had up Romio plus for 500 and wondered if they had anything similar. The first person I called wasn't able to help me so I called back . The second associate put me on hold and said that when my annual renewal expires in December I will have been with TiVo for 10 years so they could offer me a special deal. I got a plus with lifetime for $500 and free shipping.

So if you are a long time TiVo customer it might be worth a shot, again YMMV

Cool. Had service since 2002, will give it a shot for a Plus tomorrow.

Was actually on with Tivo ordering a unit when this alert appeared. The rep did confirm that you had to have 10 years of service or more - and there was no way around it. She did confirm the prices mentioned.

For what it's worth, I have been with them for 9 years and I wasn't able to take advantage. However, I did order a Roamio with Lifetime for $450 based on their holiday email which has erroneous pricing. It was supposed to be $550 but they agreed to honor via phone only.

The holiday email mentions $450, $725 and $900 for Roamio, Plus and Pro with lifetime. Expiration date 1/6/15.

Just got a plus with lifetime for 399.99 + 99.99 (lifetime).

Thanks OP!

Damn, I only have 6 years. Rep gave me the holiday special link:
https://www.tivo.com/shop/promo/holiday-sale

They also told me to call them at 877-530-6950 on Black Friday to see what deals they may or may not have.

I bought a Roamio Plus 33 days ago. Despite being 3 days outside the return period, a super nice rep refunded me the $100 difference between what I paid and the current promo. No begging required. I've been a tivo customer forever and will continue to be. I like the product and the service. Thanks, tivo and OP. Will rep when not mobile.

Just had to chime in and +1 this thread for the great product.
If anyone is sitting on the fence about this purchase, please go for it.
I had the series 3 and hesitated to upgrade because this one seemed too expensive (and it has such a stupid name). When my S3 gave up the ghost, around the same time as another deal for this product came on this site, I took the plunge to the tune of $800.
The experience is leaps and bounds over some of the previous models. I do believe that the thing that I like best about these boxes is that if you get the Plus or a Pro, you have the option of adding mini adapters and putting the tivo experience into other rooms. Prior to the mini, each additional room in my house that wanted cable needed an adapter (which had a fee) from the cable company.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE tivo
At this price, I am debating on gifting this to a VERY dear friend and her family

Roamio was a major upgrade over the Premier IMO. Had the TiVo HD, Premiere XL4, and now a Roamio Pro. Glad I upgraded each time.

Premiere was the only CLEAR dog TiVo ever released. Everything else has been great practically since day 1. However, they're screwed in 2017 when the patent protections run out. They've WASTED their 20 year lead - took too long to actually sue all the infringers (everyone who made a DVR infringed some to many of their patents) and then made weak licensing deals.

Agreed on the TiVo stuff but screw buying expensive gifts like this for girls...especially if they are not putting out lol.

(All was said half jokingly so don't get all mad if this made you upset Wink. )

Agree that they wasted their lead. Rather than sue though, I wish they had focused on making their product better more quickly. Updates have been slow and even the differences between generations have not been huge. No HD UI or PIP while in menus until the 3rd gen HD device (Premiere), slow to update/add streaming services, why oh why did they choose Adobe Flash for the HD UI when they finally did it, slow CPUs, no upgrade in buffer length despite huge increases in hardware specs, etc.

Despite all that, still the best DVR out there right now, and with the rates cable companies charge you to rent theirs, still a reasonable investment.

The one feature I wish they'd add is some sort of dynamically updated guide - so if a game runs late, a presidential address comes on, or there's a last minute change for any other reason, the TiVo should know in this day of internet connected devices. There's no reason it should only update the guide data daily or weekly or whatever it currently is.

My premiere actually always worked fine though. I wasn't an early adopter though, so I may have gotten it after they worked out the kinks.

Actually, there have been a few cases where they pushed a guide change to units the afternoon it changed due to breaking news or a sporting event running long. Maybe only two or three times, but they have the capability and they have done it.

Interesting, didn't know that. Nevertheless, this should automatically happen all the time for pretty much all shows. If their guide data provider doesn't given them this data, they should push them on it or threaten to find someone else.
