The VG248QE apparently gets about 400:1 contrast, with lightboost enabled.

Go XL2411Z for gaming, near this price.

Horribly washed out colors and PWM makes you blind. Make sure you turn down the blue in this monitor or your eyes will quickly succumb to macular degeneration. Going to be funny in a few decades when epidemiologists figure out all these computer nerds staring at screens all day are going blind.

This is a good price on the Asus monitor. I recently upgraded to the Asus from using a 7 year old mag inovision monitor and as an avid gamer the difference is amazing. I never knew what i was missing out on until i used this monitor the color is a substantial upgrade and so much brighter than my old one. This monitor can be overly bright at times mainly with just the whites such as when browsing the web at night but with the f.lux program its not too bad. I bought this monitor at Tigerdirect when they had the $27 off $270+ and i also got $17.50 back in Bank of america deals so i got this monitor and a $27 noctua fan for $233 which isnt bad so the monitor was basically $203.

I really like the tilt and rotation feature i use it more often than you would think and the adjusting of height and angle is really smooth.

$209 is a good price with free shipping when i bought mine i paid an additional $16 for shipping.

I calibrate my monitors to ~5500k Wink Not 9000k like on some cell phones! Holy crap.

You said the colors are good and it's brighter; that means you're not using lightboost (strobing.)

You should try it on your monitor, just so you can see what smooth motion is really like.
Your persistent 144hz image is better than 60hz, but still poor compared to strobed images.

The VG248QE..... its the only monitor in the title of this thread.

Google you will find some info, effects are likely over the long term, macular degeneration from chronic blue light exposure is already proven to contribute.

*Most* monitors use PWM backlighting.
Also, any LED monitor is likely to give a strong blue tint.

I have this monitor and I love it. For gaming it is farking life changing.

Here is a link with instructions on fixing the colors:

http://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterr...qe_gaming/

I tried the lightboost hack and while it is really cool, it makes the colors worse and I didn't find it necessary because 144Hz already looks so great.

Asus vg248qe is an amazing monitor, I got one about 2 months ago during the staples deal ($215 + tax). I didn't think it would make a big difference, but now I cannot go back at all. I was playing a lot of CS:GO, and even when I play wow on a 60hz screen, it looks like there is a strange ghosting effect on 60 hz. I grabbed a second one for a secondary gaming machine in my house, Thanks
