INTRODUCING THE KEURIG 2.0(R) DRM FREEDOM CLIP
Our Gift To You and Everyone .... Freedom Of Choice!
Quote :
In August of 2014 Keurig Green Mountain(R) replaced the standard Keurig K-Cup(R) brewers with a new version 2.0. This new version is very similar to previous models except for ONE thing... it includes a new lockout technology that only allows "Authorized K-Cups(R)" to work.
It does this by visually identifying a special ink on the lidding. Any cup without this "special" ink is rejected by the machine thus ensuring Keurig's(R) marketplace dominance. While other companies are quickly working to adopt this special ink to their cups we at Rogers Family Company(R) believe that your right to choose any option is imperative.
That's why we have developed this easily installed "Freedom Clip" for Keurig 2.0(R) brewers. Just place the clip in your new brewer and it will see all k-cup type pods as "Authorized K-Cups(R)" . This clip is our gift to you. Now go forth and brew with freedom.

So if we don't have a new Keurig... we don't need this right.

Yes, you don't need it.

This is for the new Keurig 2.0 to trick the sensor that blocks the machine from working with "non-authorized" k-cups.

Incorrect. It says free and its slickdeals. You should order 1 for yourself and 1 to resell.

Saw this mentioned in another post and signed up. Was really the only thing making us hesitate to switch to the 2.0 with having to tape a freaking ring inside. Seems I'll be making a trip to costco this weekend.

Hope no one abuses this and tries to order a crazy amount since it's so helpful.

So, I don't drink coffee, which probably makes my opinion even less valid.......but I've always thought Keurigs were one of the biggest gimmicks ever.
But this, designed so you were FORCED to buy their over-priced stuff? Clever, very clever.
Ordered one for someone I know who is "upgrading" to one of these.
thanks

You know for a long time I had the same opinion. Until last year I finally bought one and now I love it. I love the variety that I get.
Before that I was an espresso person. We even bought a Saeco, fully automated espresso machine for home. Now the poor machine just sits lonely.

If you read the email that you got confirming your order it says that they are suing the makers of Keurig.

I signed out before seeing that. I wonder how you could sue someone for designing their own product to only accept their product?
Obviously the non-OEM market is huge, and as a customer I love saving money by not paying the high OEM cost for things such as ink cartridges. However, I don't think that means we should dictate to companies that they are forbidden from designing products to reject non-oem. After all, they came up with the original product!
......or am I missing something here? Confused

FWIW, I'll never own a 2.0 machine. Screw the DRM coffee machines.

It's actually even more clever than just the proprietary design including licensing fees to play with their brewers and buying up a lot of the producers. That all was a big part of the business model for the company (GMCR) and the original version as well. But their patents ran out on brewing coffee using the little plastic cups so now other companies can sell their coffee in the K-cups for use in Keurig's brewers without paying. They had to come out with the 2.0 to try to recapture the proprietary aspect of their business somehow and control the market/pricing. There are some modest improvements to the new machines beyond that, but that's the main reason for their being and the new protected format.

The Rogers company was one of the independent producers who didn't play. They came out with their own workaround modified version of the K-cups earlier. Now this so that they'll work in both the old and new versions.

Seen a ton of the 2.0 makers returned to Costco since they started selling them. Either they're breaking or people aren't happy with the new cup design and DRM. I think this clip is great!
