1/6/15: The Charge HR and Surge are now orderable directly from fitbit.com. Enjoy!

People have been reporting seeing both the Charge HR and Surge in stock at Target and Walmart stores; YMMV.

The links below are sites that recently had the Charge HR and Surge in stock online:

REI:

Not necessarily a Hot Deal, but:
1. Product pages says "REI Members get back an estimated $15.00 on this item as part of their annual member refund."
2. Check a well-known cash-back website for cash-back and free shipping..
3. REI has free ship-to-store shipping

Amazon stock going in and out of availability (primarily large)
They will be getting a batch in on dec 14 and shipping out immediately for delivery on dec 17

NOTE: The Charge seems to be causing rashes, just like the Force before it was pulled. Caveat Emptor:
http://consumerist.com/2014/12/12...it-charge/

Note 2: The above is a Consumerist wrapper around a Yahoo Tech story (https://www.yahoo.com/tech/review...85489.html). Despite the date, it seems to be reviewing the non-HR ("So the $130 Charge is not only supposed to be an exercise band that notifies you of phone calls, counts your steps, and tracks your sleep. It is also supposed to not irritate your skin."). There are some comments that most of the reactions seem to be due to trace amounts of nickel in the band clasp -- as always, Amazon / eBay provide non-metallic alternative bands if your skin happens to be sensitive.

Note 3: Note that the Charge HR and Surge are different than the basic Charge discussed in the article above. Both the Charge HR and Surge (which this thread is based on) have buckles, while the Charge has some type of clasp.

A limited release is in progress right now. From FitBit's support forums, last Thursday:
"As previously announced, our new Charge HR and Surge trackers are slated for release in early 2015. Based on excellent progress since their initial announcement, we have decided to move forward with a limited release of these trackers before their full distribution, early next year.

A limited number of emails have been sent to customers who expressed interest in our next-gen devices, containing a unique promotional link that will allow them to purchase a Charge HR or Surge tracker from this pre-release inventory. Anyone who receives this email will need to click the link enclosed within to make a pre-release purchase. Note that this special offer is not compatible with the separate 15% discount offer that was extended to Force users. If you utilize the pre-release promotion, your purchase will be at full price. Anyone wishing to instead use the 15% discount promotion will need to await the full release of these devices in early 2015, when Charge HR and Surge will appear in the fitbit.com online store for everyone.

In addition, Black Charge HR and Black Surge units are on their way to retail locations, and will appear on store shelves soon. Additional color options, as well as increased inventory, will arrive in early 2015 with the full release.

We're very excited to get these new devices onto your wrists, so you can start enjoying all the new features and hard work we've put into making a next-gen fitness tracker! Let me know if you have any questions or difficulty in making your purchases."

These things just keep getting more expensive. I have the One and an Aria scale, neither that great. They have good customer service though.

So it'd basically be pre-ordering now with the hope that REI is one of the retailers to get some limited stock and our pre-orders are fulfilled? Otherwise, why not just wait?

Same deal for the Surge here. I chose the store pickup. Let's hope.

Sorry, here's a list of the retailers FitBit says will be getting stock soon:
Target, Best Buy, Amazon, Dick's Sporting Goods, Kohl's, The Sports Authority, Wal-Mart, Verizon, Brookstone, REI

Not sure I can justify $150+ on a toy.

You can get everything free on your phone: RunKeeper, Sleep as Android and any heart rate monitor app. Currently using Misfit right now, felt like a waste of money.

That depends on your outlook on things. When it helps compel you to move around more often and increase the amount you walk or exercise, I would say it's worth a small premium. It's also easier to just wear something than worry about carrying your phone on you 100% of the time.

Fitbit has fantastic customer service. When my dogs knocked off my Flex band and I found the band chewed up in their cage last year, they sent me a replacement band free of charge (the replacement bands were backordered everywhere at the time.) When I contacted them a week ago because it was no longer holding a charge after less than 15 months, they sent me a replacement even though I think the warranty is technically only 12 months. I mean, I'm disappointed that the unit broke down that quickly but they took care of it so that makes me happy.

FWIW, that e rebates site has already sent me an email indicating that my account has been credited with the cash back. Smilie

Exactly, since most people already have that bill why not take advantage of it and use apps as opposed to spending an additional $150 on a device that will do it?

Your logic is kinda ridiculous.

Ah, I see. In your world, everybody has a cell-phone capable of running the newest apps, with a corresponding data plan. And they have it with them while exercising. Is the sky blue over there, too?
