How to root LG Realm using towelroot:

Preparation:

1. Go to System Settings -> Security -> check Unknown Sources ON to allow installing third-party apps.
2. Enable Developers Options
* Menu -> Settings -> About Phone (scroll to the end)
* Tap Software Information
* Tap the Build Number for about 7 times, and popup message would tell that Developers Options has been enabled.
* Menu->System Settings->Developers Options -> Enable USB Debugging

Root the phone:

Video: http://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=72890968&postcount=90

1. Download towelroot from http://towelroot.com using phone browser.
2. Tap on the Lambda (the big red letter looking icon in the middle of the site).
3. Save the tr.apk file to your device.
4. Pull down the notification menu by pulling down from the top of the device.
5. Tap on the Download Complete notification tr.apk
6. Tap Next; Tap Install; Tap Decline (if tap Accept, a Google warning page will be shown next) ; Tap Open
7. Tap on the Make it Ra1n button and wait for it to do its thing.

You should get a success notice, that's it; your phone is now rooted. :-)

Install Titanium Backup ★ root to backup and uninstall apps that you don't want (be careful).

To disable activation:
1.Download es file explorer from Play Store; navigate to /system/priv-app; rename Activation.apk to Activation.bak; rename Activation.apk to Activation.bak; reboot the phone.

or

2. Use titanium backup to uninstall "LGSetupWizard 4.3.019", no more nag screen asking for activation.

Could not figure out away to remove "disable airplane mode" upon startup so I left airplane mode off for this phone being used as music/video player.

Great value for $20. Got it recently on sale on eBay for $20, no tax. The activation screen initially can be annoying, but once you get past it it's fine. Just put it on Airplane Mode, then turn on WiFi and you're golden.

Love the double tap/knock to wake up the phone or to turn off the screen. It also has Qslide apps, kind of like Samsung's multiwindow thing. Let's you hover and place an open app anywhere.

Makes for an awesome offline GPS player, now that you can get Nokia Here maps straight from the Play Store.

Not to mention great little music player. Can't think of another phone that beats this one for $20. Oh, and removable battery and awesome little notification light on the home button. Really impressed for the money. Can't go wrong.

When you first activate it, does it come with a bit of free airtime? You know to test out the calls texts etc?

I agree, very solid for $20! The activation screen comes up every time you turn it on, even though it's on airplane mode, but I'm sure there's a way around it.

I never activated it. Got it simply as a little media player, offline GPS device, games, etc. When you first turn it on it asks for activation, but you can bypass it.

I was thinking "Hmmm, I should get another battery, and maybe another charger for another room..." Then I thought, well, I'll just buy another one for $20 lol, that comes with a battery and a charger...and another phone.

Thing is, on Airplane Mode I've had that thing sitting for days without touching it and it rarely uses up battery, so I don't really ever turn it off completely. That and I set it to Power Saver Mode when it hits 30% but I've yet to see it get there lol.

Can it be unlocked?

Edit: figured out it is a CDMA phone for Sprint towers.

It's a CDMA phone, not GSM, so it cannot be unlocked unfortunately due to it not having a sim card slot.

You should be able to run cards above 32gb but you'll need to reformat them to fat32.

cards above 32 SDXC are pre-formated to ex-fat by industry standard.
Problem is exfat is owned by MS and a lot of device mfg's don't buy a license to use it on a given device.. so they quote 32gb as limits.

there are some other differences in SDXC but normally the file system is the problem.
The other option would be to see if you can find a exfat kernel module for your kernel.

Samsung sourced code was leaked some time back.. I think on github.. iirc it's still up.

You might be able to kill the on boot activation if you get it rooted.

I've never rooted a phone before...is this particular model rootable? The only downside to this phone is the on boot activation....probably one of the worst i've seen.
Thanks for the info regarding the sd cards!

Just have no idea if there is a DIY flash avail. for this phone.
