What is Gamers Club unlocked?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/My-Be...8600050004

My Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked (paid membership)
How do I join My Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked?
Gamers Club Unlocked program is a 2-year paid membership which begins upon activation and is valid in the 50 U.S./D.C., excluding Puerto Rico. To learn details on purchase and enrollment in the Gamers Club Unlocked program, please see a Customer Specialist or the My Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked Terms at the Gamers Club home page.

How much does My Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked membership cost?
To find out the current membership cost and learn about any promotions, visit any Best Buy store or the Gamers Club home page. Membership is nonreturnable and nonrefundable.

How do I check my Gamers Club Unlocked status and expiration date?
On BestBuy.com, log into your My Best Buy account. Click on Account in the top right corner of the BestBuy.com home page, then using the top navigation, select Overview under Rewards. Your Gamers Club Unlocked status will be on the right hand side of the page.

My Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked 20% Discount
Once I am a member of Gamers Club Unlocked, how do I get my 20% discount on video games?
You get your 20% discount for new physical video game software only (excludes pre-owned video game software and digital gaming). You will need to make sure that your My Best Buy account is added to the transaction before you complete your purchase.

Is there a limit to how many new video games I can buy with my 20% discount?
Yes, members are limited to 3 copies of each new physical video game title (excludes pre-owned video games and digital gaming) per platform per year per member.

If I purchase Collector's Editions, Limited Editions or Game of the Year Editions, would they count toward my 20% discount limit for that title?
Collector's Editions and Limited Editions would count toward your limit for that title. However, Game of the Year Editions, usually released with additional content much later than the original version, do not count toward the original game title's limit but would start as a separate game title and limit.

If I receive a free video game through a separate promotion, would the free game count toward my 20% discount limit for that title? For example, "Buy an Xbox One, and get a free game of your choice."
No, a free game does not count toward your limit for that title. Only qualifying games purchased using your 20% discount count toward your limit of 3.

If I receive a digital copy of a video game that's included in a bundle, would the digital copy count toward my 20% discount limit for that title?
No, a digital copy included in a bundle does not count toward your limit for that title. Only qualifying games purchased using your 20% discount count toward your limit of 3.

Does my 20% discount only apply to new video games on one console (Xbox One or PS4)?
No, it applies to all new physical video games, including PC games (excludes pre-owned video games and digital gaming). Limit of 3 for each title per platform per year per member.

Does my 20% discount apply along with other My Best Buy video game offers?
Yes, My Best Buy offers stack on top of your 20% discount. For example, if you are eligible for reward certificates or a discount as part of a My Best Buy promotion, you will get your 20% discount plus the other offer's reward certificates or discount. Here's an example:

You pre-order a video game as part of a My Best Buy promotion which offers 500 My Best Buy points worth $10 in reward certificates for pre-ordering that title in store. You then become a Gamers Club Unlocked member before you pick up and purchase the video game at the store. You get both the My Best Buy points and the 20% discount. If it's a $60 game, you get $22 worth of benefits in one transaction.

If I have already pre-ordered video games, will the 20% discount be applied to those orders?
This will depend on whether you placed your pre-orders in store or through BestBuy.com.

In Store: If you pre-ordered in store, you will receive the 20% discount as long as you are an active Gamers Club Unlocked member when you pick up and purchase your pre-order. You will need to make sure that your My Best Buy account is added to the transaction before you complete your purchase.

BestBuy.com: If you pre-ordered on BestBuy.com for either store pickup or shipping, we are not able to add the 20% discount to your existing order. To get the 20% discount, you will either need to cancel and repurchase your pre-order or to return and repurchase the game once you receive it. To receive the 20% discount going forward, you will need to make sure that you are signed in to your BestBuy.com account when you place an order and have your My Best Buy account linked to your BestBuy.com account.

Does the 20% discount for new video games come as a certificate, gift card or other back end rebate?
No, you get the 20% discount immediately when you purchase your new games. Other promotions may deliver benefits on the back end, but not your 20% discount.

Can the 20% discount be combined with a competitor price match?
No, you would receive either the price match or the 20% discount, whichever is the lowest price. You would not be able to get both.

If I buy a new video game using my Gamers Club Unlocked 20% discount, and then Best Buy lowers its price within the return/exchange period, can I get a price adjustment?
Yes, you can. If the price of the game is lowered within the return/exchange period, you can request to get the difference between the original price you paid with your Gamers Club Unlocked 20% discount applied and the lower price with your Gamers Club Unlocked 20% discount applied. Limit one price adjustment per identical item per customer. Purchases made in store can get the adjustment in store at Customer Service. Purchases made online can get the adjustment by calling 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289). Requests for adjustments must be made during the return/exchange period for your original purchase. See the Price Match Guarantee for more details. Here's an example:

You purchase a new video game priced at $59.99 minus $12.00 (your Gamers Club Unlocked 20% discount) for a cost of $47.99 plus tax. That same game is advertised by Best Buy for $49.99 the following week. If you request an adjustment within the return/exchange period for your original purchase, you can receive the difference between your original purchase price of $47.99 plus tax and the new purchase price of $49.99 minus $10.00 (your Gamers Club Unlocked 20% discount) for a cost of $39.99 plus tax. The adjustment would be $8.00 plus sales tax.

Gamers Club Unlocked Trade-In Bonus and Points
How do I get my 10% trade-in bonus when trading in video games?
When you trade in your games, make sure that you tell the Customer Specialist that you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member. Your My Best Buy account must be connected to the trade-in transaction to receive the 10% trade-in bonus. Please see the Best Buy Trade-In Terms for qualifying products and details. You must be 18 or older.

Does the 10% Trade-In Bonus stack with other trade-in offers?
Yes, it does. You will get your 10% trade-in bonus in addition to any other trade-in offers you are eligible to receive. The 10% bonus is calculated from the base value of the video game. Any promotional bonus offers are also calculated from the base value of the game. Here's an example:

A game has a $20 trade-in value, and the trade-in promotion offers a 50% trade-in bonus on all games. You get a $10 bonus for the trade-in promotion ($20 x 50% = $10) plus a $2 bonus ($20 x 10% = $2) for the Gamers Club Unlocked trade-in bonus. You get $32 worth of benefits in one transaction.

How do I make sure that I receive My Best Buy points when I trade in games?
When you trade in your games, make sure that you tell the Customer Specialist that you are a Gamers Club or Gamers Club Unlocked member. Your My Best Buy account must be added to the trade-in transaction before it is completed in order to receive your My Best Buy points.

For complete details, see full My Best Buy Gamers Club and Gamers Club Unlocked Terms at the Gamers Club home page.

You can not stack GCU with price matches. YMMV to get an employee override but they're not supposed to.
You actually can if it is a post purchase price match to best buy (ie buy something one week and next week it is cheaper at best buy) and if it is still during the return/exchange period (proof near the edd of the first post): http://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/My-B...d-p/723505
Q: Can the 20% off benefit be combined with a price match?
A: At the time of purchase, you would receive either the price match or 20% off. You would not be able to receive 20% off of a matched price. If Best Buy's price is lowered during the return/exchange period, the price will be matched to the lower price (upon request). My Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked Members should receive the new price along with the 20% discount. This price match covers one price match per identical item per customer.
---

Q. How do I know I have been CORRECTLY registered into GCU?
A. You should see a "Gamers Club Unlocked" icon in your BB rewards overview on the right side of the page.
Q. If I register for GCU in-store, what is the correct procedure for activating your GCU account?
A1. If you used the older GCU card to register in-store (ie., the one with the "wrapped gifts" picture at the front), the checkout person MUST scan both the top barcode and the uncovered bottom barcode (after removing the covering yellow sticker). If only the first barcode is scanned, your GCU account has most likely NOT been activated. I had to return to a Best Buy to have them scan that second barcode before I finally saw the "GCU" icon in my online rewards overview. Save yourself a second trip and ensure your cashier does it correctly the first time.

A2. If you used the newer, more plain-looking GCU card to register in-store (blue front, boring), there's only one barcode available on the back. Supposedly, it's believed that scanning this one code is sufficient.
A3.

I've had the same issue as everyone else (wasted an hour yesterday with multiple exchanges/re-buys by numerous associates and managers) and I was finally able to get this activated just now. Since so many are having problems with this, I asked the associate the exact steps he had to take to get this to work. There are basically two ways of getting this done (gift version or self-use version). Basically for the gift version, you need to treat it as two separate transactions - first to buy the card (like any gift card) for someone, then having that someone (in this case, yourself) to claim the benefits of the card.
  1. Purchase the Gift version (SKU 9090667) for $30 in person. You can order online for pick up but I'd suggest you don't, as it is higly likely that the associate will screw it up. If the yellow tape has been removed when you go to pick it up, you will need a new card as that one is useless.
  2. Have them scan the small bar code up top to ring up the $30 cost first. Then they will scan the larger barcode to activate the card itself (like any gift card). Make sure they DO NOT remove the yellow tape to scan the second barcode at this time. Close out the transaction completely.
    • NOTE: If they remove the tape and scan that barcode on the same transaction, it will show as "activated" in their system but it will not be correctly applied to your account. You will need to basically throw out the card at this point as you cannot use this anymore. Have them do an exchange for a new card with the tape still on it.
  3. In a new transaction, have them bring up your RewardZone account first, then have them remove the tape and scan the second barcode (no others barcodes) to tie it to your account.
  4. Test to make sure it is activated, it should be done instantly. You can scan a game (it will pop up on their screen saying you have GCU) or you can check on the spot from your phone (it should show "unlocked" under Gamer's Club: see http://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=73150394&postcount=677)

If they still can't figure it out, you can have them exchange the gift version for the self-use version (SKU 3081475 or 3081375, light blue card)

For reference: http://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/My-B...gamersclub
Q. Can I buy GCU without activating it to give as a gift or to start the membership later (ie. avoid losing a month without use)?
Yes. To do this you need to buy the older GCU card (ie., the one with the "wrapped gifts" picture at the front). This card has a yellow sticker in the back. While in the store buy the card without peeling the sticker off, the clerk will just scan the code that is visible on top. Once you want to activate the membership go back to the store and have an employee activate the membership by peeling the yellow sticker off and scanning the barcode. Note that the card has an activation expiration date printed on the back, 1/31/2015, and must be activated by that date.
Q. What does new games means?
Any game that is not labeled as pre-owned, ie. 20% discount applies to un-released and released games no matter how old they are as long as they are not pre-owned. Note that the GCU discount does not applies to digital downloads games/keys/codes.
Q. Can I buy only 3 new games per year?
No, you can buy as many new games you want per year but the GCU discount will only apply to the first 3 new copies of the same game of the same console. This means that you can buy for example 3 COD PS4, 3 COD XBOX, 3 COD PC, etc with the GCU discount, but if you try to buy a 4th COD PS4 you don't get the GCU discount for that 4th PS4 copy. If later that same year you buy 3 GTA PS4 you will get the GCU discount for those 3 copies too since it's a different game.
Q. When you preorder a game. Will you get it on release day like amazon or does it just ship on release day and you get it 2 days later?
From: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Games...8100050002

... (2) If you pre-order online for Ship to Home, your purchase will be processed and shipped on or about street date. ...
Q. I'm already a GCU member, can I buy this and apply it to my account to extend the membership period 2 more years?
Yes. From BB GCU Terms and Conditions:

If you purchase and activate a new Gamers Club Unlocked membership before your existing membership ends, the new 2-year membership will begin after your existing 2-year membership period ends. If you do not renew your Gamers Club Unlocked membership at the end of your 2-year membership period, your Gamers Club Unlocked membership will expire; but you will continue to be a Gamers Club member (see above Gamers Club Terms for details).

The phone deal was tops for GCU.

For this who missed out, this isn't a bad way to get it. From the recent sales, you see how having GCU has sweetened many game deals. It's not hard to make that $30 back.

I picked this up on a similar promotion last year and I would say its worth it for $60 or less. If you like to buy games on release and preorder, you get 20% off and a $10 reward certificate. I've managed to preorder several games and end up getting all my money back after playing, beating and then ebaying a month later. If you like to wait for games to be 3+ months old and drop in price, this is not worth it.

For all those that have posted that they wished they should've gotten GCU, now is the time. Don't be second guessing if you should or not, because later I don't want to hear you whining how you missed out again.

Yeah, maybe I will get it now as I am buying more games for friend's daughter. Haven't bought a game for myself in years.

I'm thinking about doing this to add on two years to my current GCU membership that I got from the prepaid phone deal.

Should I wait to see if another prepaid phone deal or something happens or pull the trigger on this

Heck yeah, I didn't want it before when I had to make a purchase, but I will gladly buy this with my Best Buy gift cards. This thing pays for itself in 3 games.

The problem is that the phone deal was the best, which for some reason, it flew under my radar and I missed it. Even though I want to get GCU really badly, I can't bring myself to pay $30 knowing that I could have paid only a few bucks a couple months ago. I hope there will be a similar deal in the future, but I don't think there will be since a lot of people abused the shit out of that one. fark! I'm really pissed.
