This has been a humbling experience and highlighted how we as a studio can – and need – to do better for Xbox fans around the world. We are so grateful to our fans who have stood by our side and we appreciate all of your patience as we worked through these issues. As a token of our appreciation and to thank fans for the continued support and understanding, we will be offering the following items, for free, to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection online since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14).*
  • 1 Month of Xbox Live Gold
  • Exclusive In-Game Nameplate
  • Exclusive In-Game Avatar
  • Halo 3: ODST Campaign – Development has just started on the campaign for Halo 3: ODST, which will be available within Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and upgraded to 1080p resolution, running at 60fps. It will be available for free to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14).* Thanks to our friends at Bungie for creating the original “Halo 3: ODST” campaign.
  • “Relic” Halo 2: Anniversary Multiplayer Map – Available via a free content update to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, we will reimagine the fan-favorite map “Relic,” fully remastered and running at 1080p resolution and 60fps. We chose this map based on its suitability for Slayer and Objective modes and its ability to support teams of varying sizes. And you can trust that Certain Affinity will tune and tweak the map to make it even better than you remember.

From the official FAQ page:

Quote :
Who is eligible for this free content?

All online users that have played “Halo: The Master Chief Collection” between Nov. 11, 2014 and Dec. 19, 20141 will be eligible for the 1-month of Xbox Live Gold, an exclusive in-game nameplate and avatar, as well as the campaign for “Halo 3: ODST.” 2

The “Relic” multiplayer map will be available to all online users of “Halo: The Master Chief Collection,” regardless of gameplay during the eligibility period. 2

When and how will I receive this content and 1 month of Xbox Live Gold?

Beginning as early as mid-January 2015, depending on your existing Xbox Live subscription type, we will either apply the one month of Xbox Live Gold directly to your account or send a redeemable token via the Xbox One message center. In either case, we will send a confirmation via the in-console message center, so please check it regularly.

The exclusive in-game nameplate and avatar will be available in “Halo: The Master Chief Collection” in December 2014 via an upcoming content update. Check Halo Waypoint for further updates on release of the nameplate and avatar.

The re-mastered version of the campaign for “Halo 3: ODST” in “Halo: The Master Chief Collection” and the re-imagined “Halo 2: Anniversary” version of the “Relic” multiplayer map will be available in spring 2015. Both projects were not part of our original development plans, but as a result of community feedback, and to do something special for our fans, both are now in development. The campaign for “Halo 3: ODST” will be delivered via a free download token for eligible players1 of “Halo: The Master Chief Collection,” and “Relic” will be included as part of a free content update for the game.

Amazing. This is great news, glad to see they're giving back to their players for the broken game they released.

Does this mean I have to have played multiplayer or what about campaign while online?

I usually don't complain about free content, but the ODST campaign was horrible and most Halo fans I've talked to feel the same. Now the Halo: Reach campaign, that was amazing. Kudos to 343 for trying to make up for their horrible release, but ODST doesn't impress me, even for free.

Hopefully this means that Reach is in the pipeline too. I would have rather the free DLC be Reach, but cannot have it all I guess.

Yeah, Reach was my favorite by far, so I was pretty disappointed to hear it wasn't included with the bundle. Haven't played ODST, but I've heard bad things too. I think 343 would be pleasing the masses more by setting out more silly gametypes - or even matchmaking for game settings that are all ridiculous.

Edit: AFAIK, Reach won't be included in the collection because "it doesn't include master chief"... but hopefully they'll add it eventually anyway if enough of us complain? =p

It doesn't seem clear, so you might as well play a match or two of regular multiplayer just in case.

I'll play my first match tonight after the kids go to bed. Better safe than sorry.

If you played any halo MCC you should get the ODST campaign.

If you played online, you will also get the free month of gold and an avatar.

I really enjoyed Halo 3: ODST. I think many of the people who disliked it were expecting another Halo game, which it isn't. It was the first time you played as someone besides Master Chief. It has a different feel, different music, different story pacing, etc from Halo 1-3. It's much darker (literally) as well.

I'm bummed that they announced this day of. I have MCC shrink-wrapped here as a present but won't be able to play it for another week.
