so tempting..my dad has a brother all in one and swears by it. especially the fact that he can use cheap inks without issues and the fax works with his cable telephone line.

Looks like the price of the generics on Amazon are twice the cost of the J430 although it's probably because of the newer cartridge design. Still not a bad deal.

This is an inkjet. I'd rather eat a bullet than buy another inkjet.

Brother laserjet are what you want. Very cheap ink and reliable.

If you absolutely need an All-In-One but aren't in a rush, is this probably the best you'll find sub $60?

Not sure why you say that... My MFC-255CW is going strong for several years now without any problem. Ink is as cheap as a few bucks for a pack.

I just won't do inkjet anymore. Cost of ink is nuts, it dries out, hard/impossible to find a monochrome one now, etc. . My brother laser jet is fantastic and I recommend it without issue, other than the fact it's monochrome.

I wouldn't say cost of ink is nuts. I will never touch an HP, sure, but I've never had a problem with my Brother.

Edit: for clarification, this ink is not compatible with the printer in this thread, it's just an example of dirt cheap OEM ink for brother inkjet printers.

I am looking into buying a Brother laserjet AIO printer for home office and was interested to hear that their laser toner was cheap. Can you or anyone else please provide some suggestions as to where the best cheap ink is available?

Thanks

Actually, the HP 8600 series is really easy on ink. I buy the genuine HP cartridges and, as an example, the black XL is about $32 retail and I typically get about 1,200 to 1,400 pages so it's about 2.5 cents per page.

This Brother may be the best of the inkjets, but if you do get the Laser jet one the ink is pretty good, like $45 retail for 2400 sheets worth of ink IIRC, and you can get cheaper with certain deals. Still, that's two cents/page, which is good particularly given that the toner isn't ink, and so doesn't dry out. My brother laserjet really is the cat's meow, 2280W rings a bell on its model number. I don't want to troll this thread, though, so I won't say anymore!

Laserjets don't use ink.
