Great specs for the $, BUT the reviews on this as a refurb are horrifying. Needs SSD and CPU is a bit underpowered for the build type (Mid-High end gaming and productivity)

Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6834232147
Overstock: http://www.overstock.com/Electron...oduct.html

Looks like buyer beware on this one. Trust me, I was close to pulling the trigger on this, but EEK!

I got excited at first, but then I checked out the CPU and the scores are rather poor for this price range.

Bought this for $500 on Craigslist in mint condition a few months ago. Works great for gaming and with an msata ssd it is very fast. I still don't see a need for touchscreen laptops but it's kind of nifty to use sometimes i guess. The brushed metal body is really nice and I don't notice it being heavy at all. Maybe try lifting a few weights if you think you'll struggle carrying 6lbs..

Asus is garbage and has no support.
Under six months ago purchased a SC400 that was open box (not refurbished like this one is) from Newegg. It was problematic from the start with odd audio sounds that lots of people complained about on the web... fast forward four months and the thing completely died. Called Asus and told that it was no longer under warranty. WTF? Told it would probably cost about $200 to fix and sent it in only to be told that it would cost nearly $600 to fix.
Thanks Asus. Thanks Newegg.
Buy Lenovo and get something that is supported with a warranty that they honor, an excellent support site, and a quality build (even on their low end $300 laptops) that is way better than Asus.

NOTE: this unit is REFURBISHED with NO WARRANTY WHAT SO EVER! Adorama offers a 30 day return policy only with a 10% RESTOCKING FEE. So if it breaks in under 30 days then it costs you $60 plus return shipping for the pleasure of wasting your time with this junky unit. And it if dies on day 31 it costs you $600. Good luck with that!

Does it? I've been searching for a laptop with a FHD IPS screen pretty extensively around this price range and most have processors (usually i5 42xxx processors) that score significantly lower and they usually have Intel HD 4000 or 4400 for video. I've been searching so much so that I might bite on this one (though, I wish it was a 14" screen w/o an optical drive, but that's just personal preference).

As for reviews, they seem to be fairly positive on Amazon.

I have this laptop that I purchased six months or more ago. I installed a new SSD and loaded windows 7 and no complaints so far. It works great and the finish quality is very good for the price. The only thing that was a pain was the drivers since this was designed to run windows 8 and it has been hard to track down the correct ones in my experience. The screen is excellent, battery lasts a long time, multi touch mouse pad is better than most asus I have dealt with in the past. I would have no problem recommending this to others.

Good laptop, this is a BB exclusive, it was 1k when it first came out, BB has some open box for around 850, so its a good deal for the price if u don't have to pay tax, my only concern is warranty as someone mentioned that it does not come with standard 90 days warranty? Then who refurbished it is a big question mark!!

Apparently it does come with 90 day warranty

You know what they say about opinions and A holes don't you? The above is YOUR OPINION! I have had great success with ASUS products including two refurbished laptops. If you took the time to READ you would have seen they DO have a warranty and that THERE IS a return policy. SHFH

I have this exact laptop and it's been pretty great. I've had it for several months. It's been a front-pager at this price from various sellers about 5 times in the past year (comes and goes). Plays Dragon Age: Inquisition on high settings no problem. It's got a ton of excellent extras like touchscreen, AC Wireless, and backlit keyboard, and the screen is really nice. It is a little heavy so it's not exactly what you'd want for portability.

It's currently $1k at Best Buy without the SSD: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-...9093053506).

I'm building a 4k gaming desktop (GTX 970 SLI running on an Acer XB280HK) which is the only reason I'm getting rid of it. Whether I was selling mine or not, I'd still have great things to say about the laptop. Great deal for a gaming laptop. I personally am going for the dedicated desktop and a cheap ultrabook, but I can see the value in simply owning a gaming laptop.

Good buy!

I have this machine, I put a 500gb Samsung SSD in it. Its my daily driver and I don't use a desktop.

I disagree with it not being fast enough. I paid a fair bit more than this for it. And if mine vanished right now I would jump on this.

Its fast enough for me to game, The screen is gorgeous, its heavy yes, but its Metal! and feels solid/high quality. For 600$ I don't think you can touch something better? If you don't care about gaming, get the I5 version of the same machine, its as thin as a pancake and the battery lasts 7+ hours. I love these machines.
