I gather the unwritten rule is when the prize has been delivered to your house or is in your city and on the truck for delivery to your home that day. That way you cannot be disqualified for reasons unknown and not get the prize because the powers that be want the prize to go to one of their consumers rather than an opportunistic sweeper. In other words don't tempt fate.

When you announce wins ahead of time you open yourself up to all kinds of scrutiny. An accusation of cheating is very hard to defend against. Is is a lot easier to wait until you have the prize in hand or have taken your trip first before announcing on larger items.

If its something small you are probably OK announcing it up front.

I can see being accused of cheating on photo contests, but how can people cheat on sweeps!?

Basically! I have seen some companies that now put "no sweepers" in their rules. And it sucks because posting on this board alone can make you a sweeper (i see this a lot on IG and twitter, and I guess it means accounts dedicated to sweepstakes. and i have one but I don't think this is cheating, i'd just rather not flood my TL with contests).

Also like implode say, some ppl can say you cheated , and sometimes ppl do cheat but most don't and they ruin it for those who don't...

Really, no sweepers in the rules? Never seen that. That would be illegal. Maybe for a blog giveaway, you can get away with banning "sweepers". But for a legitimate sweep, you would never see that.

I see it often on IG and twitter sweepstakes. Don't know how it's illegal to exclude them...but many people/organizations do it...and many don't say it, but they check profiles and won't pick ppl who they think are sweepers. I see who wins a lot of major businesses prizes on twitter and I do think they personally pick who wins, it's not "random."

I've never seen 'no sweepers' in the rules but have often wondered if sweepstakes administrators sometimes level the playing field by giving everyone a single entry regardless of how many times they entered, especially in a sweeps advertised as unlimited entries. Of course in the case of daily entry sweeps why would they suggest coming back every day to gain additional entries. My very first sweeps win was a trip to Vegas from a sweeps that allowed unlimited entries. I had entered a total of one time.
