hey, have amazon pricematch it with their option that enables us to put in a lower price elsewhere. i guess if we get enough people on amazon to do it, they price may drop

Woot is owned by Amazon, so I don't think they will price match to themselves.

I have both the HD 518 and the HD 598 and I can honestly say that they are not too different from one another. Obviously the HD 598 are better but 518's are still great in comparison. I first had the 518's and they sounded amazing so when i ordered the 598's i thought i would be completely blown away because of all of the positive reviews you can find all over the internet. However, i was quite surprised on how similarly they performed. I have done comparisons even after breaking them in and to my surprise, there was not much of a difference. Both headphones have great highs and mids. The 598's have a slightly better sound stage but have less boomy bass than the 518's and depending on your preference, that may be a good thing. The 598's has a very accurate bass response while the 518's have more kick to it. But these are relative to each other, both headphones have great balance with the high's, mid's, and low's. (So don't expect to have some bass heavy pair of cans.) The build quality is excellent, they have a premium feel and don't feel like cheap plastic As for comfort, the 518's are great. I'm able to wear them for hours (with glasses) and not feel fatigued. Whether it's for movies, music, or gaming the 518's perform remarkably and I feel like these are highly underrated headphones, especially for ~$55. If you are someone looking for a great, well balanced, pair of headphones and you're not particularly a "audiophile/audio purist" who will gripe about every single minuscule detail, but still care about high quality sound production, then i would 10/10 recommend these headphones. These headphones are perfect for anyone who's looking for an inexpensive pair of high quality headphones. Taking the perspective of an average consumer, the HD 598's price difference ( almost $100 depending on your source) is not justifiable despite the fact that it performs better.

*The whole point of me comparing the 518's to the 598's is just to show that the 518's are a great pair of headphones and is a great value especially at this price. In no way do I mean to say that the 598's are not good, they are an excellent pair of headphones.

Any idea if AMP needed for this? I would think no?

No amp needed for these. They are 50ohm which will work fine on most sources.

I ordered a set of these. Couldn't resist for this price. These will be an upgrade from my HD439's. Looking forward to the better soundstage that should come with the open design. I also ordered a 1.2m cord with the 3.5mm end so I can use that when traveling. Not a fan of traveling with a 10 foot cord on my headphones.

No amp needed, works on phones, ipods, etc. They do sound much better when amplified though and a small amp portable amp would be worth the investment if you use it on the go.

You're better off investing in better headphones than an amp at this price point.
