It's a shame they don't have the one with the amiibo yet.

I just got the Wii U about a week ago and I keep seeing this amiibo thing popping up. What is it exactly? It looks like it's just a toy, but there has to be more to it.

Do these code work on other games? Like Bloodborne? Or The Order 1886?

It's a little statue (of various Nintendo characters) with near-field technology that interacts with the gamepad to do various things in games. In SSB4 (Smash Brothers), you can level your Amiibo up, fight against them, etc.

IMO, it's a gimmick, but good/fun for kids. I bought my daughter one. I can say it is annoying to have to constantly find the thing, and hold it to the gamepad to "save our progress" after every session.

They are similar to Skylanders. There is a spot (I believe on the bottom left) on the game pad where you can tap the amiibo and it will interact with the game.

Thanks! Repped you both.

Doesn't seem like something I'd be interested in as an adult male with no kids.

They are toys for us nerds to keep displayed in our man caves, or for kids...to play with. But they also are NFC devices that when touched to the game pad on certain games unlocks certain things.

For example, in smash bros they are like a virtual character that you level up and can customize to fight along with and you can save their prograss by touching the character to the game pad. In mario cart they unlock extra skins of that character, for example if you have a Yoshi amiibo you can then race your mii character as yoshi and have a custom skinned cart. In Zelda you can unlock random items once a day for each character you touch to the game pad. Could be coins, weapons, items etc. The Zelda characters amiibos unlock higher quality items. Mario party 10 will have a special game mode for the amiibos.

I'm an adult male with no kids. Just a wife! I'm not ashamed to display nintendo figures in the game room of my house Cool They go along with the marvel and star wars stuff!

There's got to be a way to get an amiibo, copy the nfc to another nfc sticker, and sell the amiibo afterwards. This way you have the nfc's to unlock the hidden stuff, and then not have the toys laying around lol

IMO the toy is the best part. I buy disney infinity characters, amiibo's and skylanders practically for the collection and display. I hardly ever play them.

They cost close to an action figure but have the added ability to interact in the game Smilie
