I had a Virgin Kyocera Event hanging around the house I use occasionally as GPS or MP3 player but wanted to check if FreedomPOP ever added to their BYOD list.

A couple days ago it was announced FreedomPOP was adding 17 additional BYOD phones.
Some of which are phones that were prior slickdeal phones that were available for next to nothing or free, like my Kyocera Event and Kyocera Hydro. I attempted to activate my Event and it was confirmed compatible its live now.

List of NEW phones:

HTC Desire 510
HTC One M7
HTC One V
Kyocera Event
Kyocera Hydro
Kyocera Rise
LG G2
LG Nexus 5
LG Optimus S
LG Optimus V
LG Realm
LG Tribute
LG Volt
Motorola G
Samsung Galaxy Discover
Samsung Galaxy Mega
Samsung Galaxy Prevail
Samsung Galaxy Rush

Here is the link to the article I found. [prepaidphonenews.com]

If nothing else if you have one of these phones your resell value probably just went up a few bucks.

In case you have been under a rock somewhere FreedomPOP is a Sprint MVNO that offers free phone/data (limited) service.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I was thinking I could use an old Virgin Mobile phone for FreedomPOP, until I read this in the article.

The post containing the new list also contains the statement "NO Pre-Paids, NO Tri-Bands & Unlocked GSM/CDMA Devices(make sure phones are Locked to CDMA Sprint)". Which doesn't make sense as many of the phones on the list either support tri-band LTE or are prepaid only models and one was never sold by Sprint.

You can use a Virgin PP if its one of the new phones on the list. My Kyocera Event is Virgin PP. Got it for free last year from Radio Shack when they did a trade anything in for store credit offer.

I believe activation is still $20 but still cheaper than paying for MVNO service.

YES, FreedomPop does NOT have the best rep, but unlike the $25 refurb deals recently FP posted you DONT have to deal with CS to get off the pay-plans after 30days.
The advantage to BYOD is you just pay your $20 and roll with the freebie plan. I have Samsung Victory on FP with freebie plan since May last yr. If want to avoid CC issues use a PP CC or and old rebate CC.

Company has terrible customer service. Sent repeated messages to remove a mistaken charge and took over one week to respond. Filed a chargeback and took less than one business day to reply to remove the same charge and then cancelled my account.

Just a suggestion, PM the FP rep in these threads. I've had several refunds processed promptly. Being patient and respectful will go a long ways. Smilie

AGAIN, my Virgin Kyocera Event is PP... to my knowledge the Kyo Event was only a Virgin PP. My Samsung Victory that I have used since May was a PPas well.

Small correction.
Motorola X should be Motorola G.

BTW, I verified a $20 LG Realm I got from BB.
