New forum feature - Forum Archive

I would really like it if the search function searched BOTH the live and archived forums simultaneously without having to go into advanced search. Or perhaps you can make this one of the preferences (to have live only or live + archive searched).

Sometimes I see a deal that looks good to me, but I'm not sure so I search to see what deals have been posted for the item in the past. Sometimes the last deal is more than six months old, but it's still very helpful in determining the slickness of a current deal.

I would hate to have to do a second search every time I couldn't find enough useful information in the live forum search results.

There are a number of other reasons why I would like my searches to search in both the live and archive forums. Becaue of the way I personally use SD if simultaneous search was not an option I would consider it a major downgrade and the site would lose a fair amount of usefulness and a lot of usability.

What is to stop people from harvesting things from the archives and reposting them as new deals? This started quite a problem when we temporarily went to the six month repost rule and I personally would not like to see it happen again.

One could bump a thread to prevent it from being archived if the freebie offer is still valid

I think what she means is some people used to wait until a thread had been posted for 6 months and 1 day and then repost the thread just so they could get the reps.

Yep, I figured that that's the situation that's being brought up. The rule would still be in effect, unless the thread has been archived, which can be prevented by bumping a thread before 6 months have passed. If the thread itself is simply 6-months old but is accessible, reposting it would still be considered a repost.

I posted this in suggestions, but really this is an error (IMO) with new archiving system. Look under user profile, and look at number of sweeps a person posted. It now only recognizes, non archived contests. Thats a real discredit toward are hard workers. It should always keep track of the total number, NOT just those outside the archive. I now have 50 contests posted, instead of getting credit for well over 200 of them I have posted.
