Still waiting for a $20 BluRay drive. I have no actual need for one so I'm pretty ok with waiting forever.

For those watching prices of these, is this a good price, a great price, or a SUPER GREAT price? Needing to get a rig together for my dad by July or so.

although I haven't really kept up with it. But for a bluray burner I would say not a bad price at all! I myself would rather have a external bluray burner but that is me. Plus I hate MIR's so I probably would not get this myself. But really in my opinion a very decent price as long as you don't mind MIR's.

So how does this drive compare to this drive? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...-_-Product

The LG is 14x BD-4 vs ASUS 12x & is also $59.99 non-sale price. Is it because the LG is a bare drive?

This is a so so price. It's been $30AR last year from NewEgg& TigerDirect.

I picked up three of them during those last sales. Overall I have no complaints. Some people may want the LG model as it can burn to those m-disc.

The LG is 14x vs the Asus being 12x. The LG also supports M-Disc whereas the Asus does not. Overall, if you don't need the m-disc feature, I'd rather save my money and get a slightly slower bluray burner than pay $20 more. As for the included software with the Asus, it lacks bluray playback software and the burner software is not much better than the free stuff like CD BurnerXP.

last I checked, the egg reviews made me choose the lg over the asus, even with me being a major asus fan

notice these burners can not play any bluray discs without special software. and if software is included it is usually pretty poor. I bought one anyway cause I must have it

Depending on the manufacture date/revision, the Asus drive can be either a Lite-On or an LG clone.

If you're a geek, you can try cross-flashing firmware and unlocking additional capabilities on the LG drive.
