do NOT wait 90 days to change these filters. in a typical household you're looking at 30 day intervals. just wanted to give people a heads up...

Yea I just bought a 2 pack of these a few days ago for almost 20 bucks. The one I put in then is already noticeably dirty but I did sand and refinish my hardwood floors so I have lots of dust from that still in my system. Just curious I have been using 16x25 since I bought my house, thats what the pervious owner used and they stick out 4 or 5". That makes it easy to grab and change but should I be using 16x20 so it stays inside completely or does it not matter?

The filter should fit snugly into the slot. If it's sticking out at all then it's too big. Sounds like you should use 16x20, as you noted.

I've never heard of anyone using a filter that wasn't sized for the return opening. Confused

I don't know how it's so hard for me to always find the 16x23x1 that I need. End up using a 16x24x1 which has the end sticking out just a bit. Really annoying though.

EDIT: must actually be 16x22.25 from looking at HD and anything available in that size. And yet still, 2 available and not for this sale. Sucks

The previous owner half assed everything. I have spend the last 1 year or so fixing and redoing most things in the home. I have just been using the same size filters because I wasn't sure.

Perfect timing! My A/C filter is way overdue for a replacement.

I wish Home Depot would go back to carrying the 3M Filtrete filters.

In my (admittedly limited to a single situation) experience, they are much better than this Honeywell junk. The honeywell ones seem to restrict airflow as much as the no-name pleated filters from the hardware store.

Luckily Target still stocks a limited selection of Filtrete filters (and has them in my size).
