Deal: http://www.southwest.com/inflight

Update 3/16/2015: Deal confirmed - I just received this card today, and called up Chase to confirm this promotion applies, and it does!!!!

Update Points received!!: I got my points and used them to buy tickets already. After about 20 days having the card, we reached our $2000 in spending, and a few days later we saw the points in our account. I got the points before my 1st monthly statement even.

Apply for the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Card and get ready to get away. You'll earn 50,000 bonus points after you spend $2,000 on purchases in your first 3 months your account is open. This bonus offer is available to you as long as you have not received a new cardmember bonus for this product in the past 24 months.

$99 annual fee will be applied to your first billing statement. You'll also receive 6,000 bonus points after your Cardmember Anniversary.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

The link seems legit to me for several reasons. 1) It comes right from the Southwest.com site. 2) Others have said they are getting the 50,000 offer mailed to them. 3) Others have said they have seen the deal advertised in airports.

I took the plunge and signed up

For people that have participated in the offer: Approximately how long after paying the credit card bill that puts you over the $2000 requirement are the points actually posted to your account?
Edit: Nevermind, the answer is 1-2 weeks.

If I already have a Plus card from a few years back, can I sign up for this one and possibly the plus again when it's 50k deal (by cancelling and reapplying) to put me near enough to get the companion pass?

You can get the new card and qualify for points after 24 months have past since you got the old card. But note in order to get the companion pass the 110,000 points must all be earned in the same calendar year (Jan - Dec).

I've had the Plus and Premier cards for about 5 months now and it's only taken 2-3 business days after each statement for the points to post to my RR account. I think Chase says up to 6-8 weeks in their fine print to cover themselves, but it's never taken anywhere close to that for me. YMMV of course... Smilie

Points expire after two years of inactivity. But you can add new points (thus activity) by using the Credit Card or other ways like taking surveys.

I could only find this deal alive now. I hear new ones come out every 3 or 4 months. Anyway you only have 90 days to spend $2000 so if you got both cards you would have to spend $4000 in 90 days.

I had the same concern when I got both cards back in October. You can call Chase and ask them to verify that the promotion is applied to both cards. They'll look at both of your accounts and should be able to confirm that the promotion is attached to each.

The lady I talked to was really skeptical that I had the promotion on both cards... told me she didn't think you could have it on both at the same time which of course made me really nervous when she said that... but then she actually looked it up and went "oh, well looks like you got a pretty good deal!" thanks OP.... $4k in 90 days is easy but idk if chase will approve with so many chase branded ccs in 4 months..... do you know if back-to-back application is easier to go through since they won't notice your 1st approved cc when considering the 2nd application 5 mins later???????? or it doesn't matter since they can see your 1st cc anyway? THANKS Stick Out Tongue
