Microsoft have the first gen Astro A50 which is compatible with PS4 on sale for $199.

http://www.microsoftstore.com/sto....296005100

Amazon has the some one refurbished for $199.

I went to my local Best Buy and asked them if they could price match the deal.

They did not have the first gen in stock. But they price matched the 2nd gen for PS4.

So I got this Gen 2 headset for $199 plus tax from Best Buy:

YMMV but worth the try.

Wow you got a great deal! I have an original pair of a50's from the day they came out still work flawlessly. My only complaint is astro promised custom EQ software and that was never released.

Has true surround sound, not virtual, wireless, I've had mine since launch and never had problems.

Yes, the sale on Microsoft store is for the 1st Gen. But as I said, my local Best Buy only had 2nd Gen in stock and they price matched it. The guy didn't even seem to know the difference between 1st and 2nd gen.

Damn, I got my White Astro A40's when MSstore had them for really cheap and I PM'd at BBY for $60 new w/ MixAmp Pro.

I kind of want to try and PM this...since they wont even know the difference.

Yup, trying tomorrow...the TIV on Amazon is $135 for the White A40's w/ Mixamp.

I thought all "surround sound" headphones have emulated (virtual) surround sound i.e they don't have multiple speakers as what true surround sound is but they emulate it via software. So are you saying these headphones have more than 1 speaker per cup? If not then they're no different than any other surround sound heaphones out there. However I heard very good things about the mixamp so hence the price tag but ther headphones themselves no better than turtle beaches or whatever other gaming wireless surround headset is out there.

Just tried it earlier @ Best Buy but it didn't work. They wanted to match the model numbers (no model numbers found on the Microsoft website) and the final straw was that the red cable was different from the blue cable on the box art.

I just bought a pair of these last week for around 180 off another site. They're really great. I had a pair of Turtle Beach PX5's before and I notice a world of difference in the sound.
2nd gen should have the mixamp that plugs in with micro usb instead of mini usb and some different materials on the headphones themselves. Anyone think it really makes a big difference though? They look very similar and seem to have the same guts in them. Unless of course you wanted to buy the mixamp pro as part of your set not sure I see the advantage.

I have A40's which I alternate use on between ps4 and xb1, which is annoying as hell. Debating attempting this...

I think I'll at least try and if it works I'll have it in hand then I'll consider either keeping or returning.

Woot.

$158 out the door including taxes with $55 in GC Plus PM.

First guy in electronics denied me. I walked it up to register up front and cashier pm'd without issue.

Now...trade in my a40's whcih i got for $89 (thanks SD) or keep one for each system?
