Hope the following info helps as I have owned both tablets and see a lot of mis information being passed:

The ATT version uses an exynos processor just like the wifi version. Performance will be the same. It is locked to ATT, and unlocking it is a difficult process. If you call att they will ask you to go to att.com/deviceunlock, however since the tab was never registered on the network you will most likely get an IMEI not found error message. Meaning, you have to activate on ATT first before trying to unlock.

The Verizon version uses a snapdragon 800 processor which I find is smoother and gets better battery life. I tested looping a video in VLC and got 8hrs of screen on time with burning about 60% of the battery at half brightness. Wifi and LTE browsing will drain the battery slightly faster. Overnight I lose about a 3% charge.

The Verizon version is GSM unlocked from the factory. I use it on T-Mobile and get 4g & LTE. Do not expect any software updates as the device was never officially launched on Verizon.

Both tablets only qualify for T-Mobile's free data if you have an existing or active paid plan. To qualify for the no strings attached free 200mb, the tablet must be listed here: Free T-mobile Data [t-mobile.com]

You can request the tablet to be added here: Add Device [t-mobile.com]

Hope this helps answer many common questions

Good deal, thanks. Hoping the price comes down a bit more in the next few months. My Nexus 7 is showing its age, and there aren't many quality options for Android tablets under 10".

What is the best choice to get this unlock and use it on T-Mobile? Verizon?

AT&T would be your best shot. Verizon uses CDMA signals which aren't compatible with GSM which AT&T/T-Mobile use.

I've got the Tab S 10.5 and love it, but at this price for a cellular enabled tablet I'm tempted to get the 8" as well.

Verizon has GSM bands too on their devices that they carry but I was thinking more of the available bands on the Tab S LTE.

I'd say verizon. I had the att version but couldn't get it unlocked because att didn't recognize the imei. The verizon version is gsm unlocked and has a snapdragon 800 processor, I find the battery life much better and overall much smoother

But Tab S 8.4 has these LTE Bands Network: LTE Band 13/4 (700/1700 MHz) Global Network: EDGE/GSM (850/900/1800/1900), HSPA/UMTS(850/900/1900/2100)), none of which are compatible with T-Mobile.

This is an excellent deal.

For comparison, the standard WiFi model was only $10 less very recently w/o the possibility of also using a 10% off coupon like this one qualifies for and was a Front Page deal: Link
