Isn't the 960m just a rebranded 860m?

I think it's a Maxwell 860m with slightly higher clocks.

tempted to get this over the lenovo for $909 (was $899)... newer 960m vs 860, but 8gb less RAM

no tax in NY on newegg, though, so save $70-80 there alone

I have the 860M version of this laptop. If you are worried about gaming at all, install a SSD, the 5400 RPM drive is not nearly efficient. However a inexpensive 128 GB SSD is sufficient to increase performance (it stalls while loading textures in some cases without it). Opening the case is a pain to do it, the best video to follow is in a foreign language but shows exactly how to open.

How are the screens on Acer? I'm done with Lenovo.

Also, how is the touchpad? I tend to hate ones without physical buttons like this.

Good point on tax... I'm struggling with the same question. Any idea how much it would cost to upgrade the RAM on this to 16gb yourself?

Nice deal.

I have the 860m version and like it quite a bit. I know prior models had the bad wi-fi reception but mine absolutely does not have that issue so I assume this one is fine as well.

There are a few annoyances though.

1. The 3x USB ports are all on the same side and very close together.

2. The backlit keyboard is nice but it will turn on every time you boot up or wake up. Not a big deal but annoying to hit Function + F9 every single time to turn it off.

3. This has a matte screen. I hadn't owned a matte screen before this so was disappointed at first since the colors don't pop like they would on a reflective glossy screen. I've gotten used t it though and I'm fine with it now.

4. The 5400rpm drive is garbage. You'll want an SSD and it's an annoying computer to open up and swap out/put in another drive.

Other than those annoyances though I really do like it and haven't had any other issues.
