Very well rated headphones as half the cost of their flagship HD800 model (when it's on sale). Buysonic is part of sonicelectronix.com

Reps and thumbs up, especially to cancel out the bonehead that gave this a thumbs-down without any comment. This is a great deal.

Holy hell. The fact that this is a good deal means these headphones must be amazing... would love to try them out someday and see what I'm missing!

It's a decent deal. The lowest I've seen them go was $330, but that was a special circumstance that might not happen again. At this price, they're certainly less expensive by a bit than some of the other headphones they're competitive with, like the Audeze LCD2. I'd recommend any serious headphone enthusiast who can to strongly consider them.

These are definitely love it or like it headphones. Don't assume what they may sound like. They're not exactly a direct upgrade to the HD 650 and more of a side step. I own the HD 598, HD 650, HD 700. I am still debating whether I prefer the HD 700 over the HD 650, which goes to tell you that the HD 700 is not an outright allrounder/better headphone. It's better in certain genres, songs, but not the defacto best overall headphone. Don't let the price determine the quality. You have to hear it to determine if it's the right headphone for the songs/genres you listen too. Not for rock or rap music IMO (it is a faster headphone but sometimes the sound stage and width with the added treble spikes really sucks the life out of rock music). Best for symphony/acoustic/gaming/movies. The HD 650 is still the better all rounder but the HD 700 is a grade above for the genres and best for list I posted in the previous sentence.

PS The HD 700 is extremely picky about the quality of source and music fed into it. YouTube videos with bad audio will sound horrible, or even low quality streaming music. High quality will sound as is, high quality.

They're also sibilant: Wherever there is an 'S' to pronounce it'll sound lispy.

These are the type of headphones people have in a studio not for the average dick and harry consumer

I have a Sennheiser HD600 which I have paired with ODAC + O2 headphone amp/DAC combo and I absolutely love this setup and thought I would never upgrade.
Now, a deal as sweet as this, I am trying to justify myself for buying these as against all my better judgement!

My wallet hates you OP! Wink

Oh please. That's just nonsense. Anyone is entitled to whatever they can afford.

If the 595 are similar to the 598 then I am not sure if you'll love the HD 700. The HD 598 are more laid back and not sibilant. The sound stage is excellent on HD 598. I'll answer more after my meeting Smilie

This is indeed a stunning price, but it's not going to make me leap for the 700's. I'll still wait for some deal someday on the 800's.

Why?

Because I agree with Cyber Athlete, that the HD 700 is not an across-the-board improvement over the HD 650. The 700 definitely provides more detail, but I don't like the sonic balance compared to the 650. I bought the 650's because every single time I've heard them, I've liked them. (And for reference, I've owned a pair of HD 580 for a decade before that.)

When I heard the 700's I was not immediately impressed and had to listen closely for the detail and stronger aspects of the sound and I did not come away lusting for them. You would think the 700 would be halfway between the 650 and 800 in performance. It's not, IMO.

As Cyber Athlete said, the 700 is more in the 650's neighborhood for overall performance (but the sonic character is much more forward than the 650 -- to forward for my taste).

The 800's are light years beyond the 700, in my opinion (listening to both of them being driven by Sennheiser's big expensive headphone amp). So that's why the HD 800's are the phones that I truly LUST to own.

At $550, you'd think they'd cover the $2 shipping
