LOL nothing in windows world is going to be close to the trackpad on an apple, especially the air.

I had one of these around black friday and I remember the trakpad being pretty good. Not particularly bad but not apple quality. I would say a strong 7 or 8 out of 10.

* Edit * I looked up the review I wrote and I did mention my trackpad having some rattle when I would touch it but while my fingers were on it the rattle was not there... more like a loose fitting. This is fairly common among budget devices.

I think the trackpad is one of the best I have used. No rattles...solid smooth feel. I have read reviews of people complaining about it.... maybe there are variances in production. its a 9/10 for me,

I have to agree. 2 lbs., instantly on, runs Windows programs (Office 2013, etc.) without problems (zippy enough for my taste), great battery life - Microsoft and ASUS finally got it right. I can throw this in a backpack and not know it's there, not worry about a mechanical hard drive failure, etc. I like the keyboard and the trackpad is fine (not awesome, but fine). Multitouch on the trackpad does die after a while, till I reboot (which I rarely have to do - yea!!!), but I am sure that's a Win 8.1 issue.

Sure I wish it had USB-3. I also wish, at the same price, weight, and battery life, it had a 14" higher-resolution screen and a blu-ray player. But for work/web use on the go, it's a great machine. If I thought mine was going to break, I'd buy another right now. I do wish it had a matte screen, though - I use it for work, not video.

trackpad is pretty terrible on my x205. don't even think about using multi-touch gestures to scroll on this thing. just going to drive you nuts!

I noticed that when I bought a budget laptop, my first ever laptop purchase, last year for my dad. It's very annoying once you notice it. I returned 2 of them before finding one that didn't have the touch pad rattle problem. The Microcenter I bought it from told me all cheap laptops are prone to having these problems and I couldn't keep coming in asking for an exchange. Then he put a note on my purchase that said it was the final exchange they would allow. I'm lucky the 3rd one had no problems.

I'm typing on this as we speak. I had to expedite shipping the other day in order to do an emergency replacement of my much-beloved 3 year old hp folio13 that I snagged by pure dumb luck at walmart for ~$488 (back when similar ultrabooks were going for around $1k or more). I have to say that this asus doesn't disappoint at all so far.

I can't comment on how the trackpad compares to the MBA, but I can comment that it's about 1/6th the price, so... we'd really have to measure our expectations by that sort of scale. I can say that I've experienced a minor issue with the trackpad already.

After waking from sleep mode, the trackpad occasionally became unable to use smart gestures, requiring a restart to get them to work again. This may not be relevant to all of us, but it is to me. I find that on a laptop this size efficient use of the trackpad goes a long way. I've since uninstalled the smart gesture software and reinstalled the updated drivers. No problems since, but I'm still keeping an eye on it. This hassle may be an issue if it happened on a $900+ MBA or other laptop, but at $161, I think I can afford 20 minutes worth of troubleshooting.

It's funny that you mentioned this. I also had issues with using multi-touch gestures (see my above post). Did you try updating the drivers? That seems to have worked for me.

The X205 multi-touch and scrolling on trackpad fails on wake after standby. Other than this flaw, it is a fine netbook

Got the fiance one of these for school. She has had no issues and loves it for what it does. Highly recommends for school or similar use!
