Great price, but the router itself seems still questionable. Too many people either love or hate it, it it works stable or you get random disconnects. "Open Source Ready" was the marketing BS of 2014 for this box, I think there is an experimental DD-WRT out there now but not much else.

From what I understand there won't be a Tomato version any time soon, if ever. So a "risky" router, you are stuck on stock firmware, no stable alternative firmware, and limited return and warranty.

Great price, but too much of a gamble.

openwrt is progressing very well on it.
But it was a problem because when it was released there was no openwrt support, and they advertised that it had.

Thanks for the post, picked one up. I'm a consumer router hoarder and this is my favorite router so far. You don't get much more out of routers beyond 1900AC (because they just have a third channel, not more speed) and the design of this one is fantastic. Got the R7000 in the great Walmart mis-pricing of 2014... and although it has been mostly stable my network pisses me off almost daily (just odd behavior). Plus whoever put the USB 3.0 port on the FRONT of the R7000 instead of simply shielding it on the back should be kicked in the nuts.

Open WRT seems to be advancing well if you don't like the stock firmware.
