Can anyone speak to the quality of the TV itself?

I have the 65 inch version (8000 series) of this TV, it is awesome. Please note though, it does have a glossy screen and it is edge lit. It has an extremely thin bezel. 3D works very well and the glasses are inexpensive to replace, or add more, and light.

Forgot to add, I paid almost twice as much for the 65, and thought I got a good deal.

Curved TVs: the most recent, and shortest-lived, excuse to jack up prices, or the wave of the future?

I'm not sure this is a hot deal, consider this -

These exact same 4 pairs of Samsung glasses are worth $15 each on Amazon right now. That's $60, AT MOST, and honestly if you only need 2 pairs like me, that's only worth $30.

The TV itself is a bad value. Honestly, why would you get an outdated TV when 2015 TV's are so dirt cheap right now?

2015 year TV's have just come out, and the TV's are better in every way, and only slightly more expensive.

Sony w850c - 65 inches for $1499. For $400 more you are getting 10 more inches (40% more viewing area), better motion, better colors, android TV, built in google cast. It has 3D too, yes you have to buy $30 of glasses yourself.

So, really, considering the TV panel is 40% larger, you are paying the same per sq ft of panel, but getting a higher quality picture quality in every single way.

Note the w850c is Sony's top of the line 2015 TV that is not a 4k.

you are mixing things up

I agree with the 3D glasses are not worth a lot
I bought some rechargeable one at Fry's for $10 each

However..you are mixing apples and oranges
You are going to need to go up significantly from that Sony you mentioned to get to the quality of the TV in this thread
in 2014 Samsung still made their higher end TV's in 1080P versions

In 2015 they do not

So..to get the same picture quality of this TV in a 4K model you are going to have to spend about twice as much as the TV in this thread
