LIMITED TIME OFFER: GET $50 OFF UP TO TWO FIRE HD 7 TABLETS ON AMAZON.COM

Amazon just announced the Fire OS 5 Developer Preview. To make it easy to test your apps on Fire OS 5, Amazon is giving developers in the U.S. exclusive discounts on Fire HD 7 tablets. If you don’t have a Fire tablet to test with, or if you need additional Fire tablets to support your development efforts, you can get a $50 discount on up to two Fire HD 7 tablets on Amazon.com. (Offer availability in other marketplaces (Amazon.de, Amazon.jp, etc) will be announced as they become available.)

To take advantage of this offer, sign-in to the Amazon Developer Portal, go to the Dashboard section and click on the Announcements link.

Look for the announcement called “Amazon Appstore Developer Device Discount” in the Announcements list. That announcement will contain a link to the discount registration form. Once you complete the form, Amazon will email you a promotional code within three days that applies the $50 (or $100 for two) discount to your purchase.

Once you have the code, go here and order up to two D 7 tablets [amazon.com] (the discount is only valid on that exact configuration). At checkout, enter the discount code that Amazon sent to you, and you will see a $50 (or $100) discount applied to your order. Make sure you see 'Developer Discount' and the discount amount of $50 or $100 when checking out.

This offer is only valid between 6/18/2015 and 8/31/2015 (inclusive, to 11:59PM Pacific).

Because the price for the 8GB version is regularly $99, with $50 off the price will be $49.

[UPDATE]: It appears that all of the codes have been claimed and the deal is now dead for those who did not claim a code.

I found another link here. hopefully, it will actually get more developers involved in building for Amazon.

Pretty slick deal! The issue is... you need to be a developer, no?

You don't have to actually develop anything to get the deal, just enter your basic contact info and accept Amazon's developer agreement.

I've got 8GB and 16GB kindles at home and definitely recommend the 16GB since the 8GB can fill up fairly quickly. I don't mind the special offers at all, and occasionally there are some pretty good ones. I've read of some SD'ers buying kindles just for the offers with no intention to actually use the tablet! It's not clear that this offer will work with the 16GB version, though, so you may not get much choice here.

Actually I hope they don't. Amazon need to stops this BS development branch of theirs that is just making their tablets suck and splitting developers attention.

Does it matter if you say yes or no to the question: "Do you plan to monetize apps" ?

I don't think there's been a special offer since before Christmas.

Could be wrong though.

Offers have never bothered me, a few times I actually liked them and you can pay the extra $20 to amazon and remove them at any point after purchase.

Jeff Bezos' insane belief that Amazon should be a tech company is destroying it. Stop writing custom software, you idiot.

I don't think it matters, and I suspect that if you are truly interested in developing for Amazon that you can switch between offering free and paid apps easily enough.
