If this was the 18-135 lens I would pull the trigger or before I went to Italy. I am waiting until Thanksgiving.

How much, if at all, better is this than the T5?

To me, it "feels" like a 300% better camera. But, it absolutely is not. They are two versions of the same thing: a hobby, digital, SLR, with the exact same sensor and extremely similar quality. The T5i has a lot of niceties that I want over the T5. It's more of a prosumer vs. hobby/toy argument. (Though the T5i is not the official prosumer series and the T5 is not a toy.)

That's why I passed on a lot of very cheap and good T5 deals to finally buy this one. However, in reality, the difference is not really that much. The T5 is a lot of older generation tech; it's the poorman's canon slr. The T5i has a lot of nicer features: it has the articulating screen, a nicer display; better/faster autofocus, newer, slightly better digital processor...etc. But, in reality, they both have a "crop" sensor -- that is to say, they have the same size sensor, which is not a "full-frame" sensor. That's the most important part of the digital SLR. That part is the same. If the difference is around $100, definitely get the T5i. It has a lot of nicer and newer features that will help slightly (I will explain more below). But, if you will rarely use it and the price difference is more, then get the T5 (or wait on a similar bundle deal on the SL1). There should be a great deal coming up on the SL1, because it is almost as good/new as the T5i, but a lot cheaper and the rebate just jumped up $100 on it as well as the SL1. The SL1 is now the cheapest Canon DSLR that comes with a $350 rebate.

Nicer features of the T5i vs. T5. Besides all the points mentioned above, most importantly the articulating screen and newer digital processor, the T5i also has more AutoFocus cross-points and a self-cleaning sensor. These things are not as significant as they might first sound (the cleaning will help with minor dry dust, but, as I am led to believe, is not a substitute for real cleaning if something wet or gooey should smudge the sensor). Still, these last two points are probably a real bonus of a feature for anyone, especially a novice. Ironically, while these two points are probably more useful for a novice, they are also two of the four benefits that drive the price up and make the T5 more attractive.

Bottom line: If they are close in price, then it's a matter of preference. Very close in price, definitely get the T5i. Far in price, consider the T5. Want to go down the middle? Wait for a similar deal on the SL1, which will hopefully come up sooner than later.

But, at the end of the day, they are all just different versions of the same toy. Kind of like three styles of the same car (e.g., they're all Toyota Camry's, with different "luxury" trim) and less like comparing completely different cars.

I just bought this and I'm having trouble submitting the rebate. I'm trying to enter "8191352" as the promotion ID, as listed on the last page of the rebate form [adorama.com], but I get an error that says this (http://i.imgur.com/VWIKJov.png).

Any tips? Will rep!

no just one lens. 18-55mm IS STM is the only lens. another deal for $599 at buydig has 55-250mm is lens. i went w this one bc 55-250mm is worth less than $150 in my opinion (u can buy it separtaely for cheaper on ebay/craigs, etc.) plus i dont need it.
