tonight i'm drinking a Deschutes Hop Trip fresh hop pale ale. A fresh hop ale is one which uses fresh hops, off the vine, without being dried. With this beer, the hops were picked the day it was brewed and driven 3 hours to the brewery from the Willamette valley. This is my first fresh hop ale.
appearance: copper color. no head to speak of.
aroma: slight piney aroma. makes me wonder what hops were used.
taste: i don't know what to say here. i'm expecting more. no bitterness or hop flavor to speak of. and very light on the malts as well. i could drink a lot of this on a hot day, being 5.5% ABV.
mouthfeel: thin. slightly acidic.
overall: after reading the reviews here[beeradvocate.com], i expected more and it didn't deliver. very disappointing.
The hops die out really quick. When it's fresh, the taste is very green. I had a Hop Trip close to three months ago, while the flavor was significant, I wasn't blown away even then.
