What CPU fan should I get?

Soamx 28 10 August 3, 2015 at 05:41 AM More Amazon Deals
I keep getting a message that my CPU is overheating

I looked up the error and it said it is usually the CPU fan (either improperly mounted or insufficient/dried out thermal paste)

I opened up the case and it looks like of the clips of the CPU is broken (the 4 clips that push into the motherboard), also the paste looks like its dried out and the cpu fan is no longer sitting flush on the CPU

What is a good cheap fan?
I have an antec 300 illusion case, a intel i5 2500k cpu and a asus p8p67 mobo

I was thinking this one http://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Alpi...1248879011

since it seems to be around the same size, uses the same clips and has good reviews for $12

So the clips that hole the entire CPU and Fan assembly onto the motherboard broke? If it's the stock intel part you can usually find them.

That cooler goes on sale all the time and is really highly rated. Can't speak to the one you linked to but i have to think it's about the same as stock. I would take this chance to get something that runs cooler and quieter.

Note after you remove a heatsync you need to reapply thermal paste, you can't just stick it back on with the paste that is there. You should fix this before using your system, without the proper pressure it won't cool correctly.

FrostyTech.com is the place for information about CPU coolers. They test about every cooling product and show temperature rise and noise levels, and they said the Arctic 11 to cool only slightly better than the stock Intel cooler: http://www.frostytech.com/article...488&page=4

Intel may send you some clips for free, but Ebay has them cheap: 10 Intel CPU cooler clips $1.55, including shipping [ebay.com]. Amazon wants $5.29 for the same number: link [amazon.com]
