Looks like the AVR 1565

You can zoom at HK to get a better look.

Three Camels shows that Amazon had been selling the receiver (w/out speakers) for $180 since September. Amazon is OOS and third-party merchants are currently selling the receiver only for around $276.

Seems a decent price since speakers and subwoofer are included.

I have this same receiver and rate it extremely high for its class at its time of release.

I have similar Yamaha speakers on it in my bedroom and it's ideal. If your brother is somewhat of a purist and has a fairly large living room he would put it in, you may want to consider stepping up in power and speaker size, but HK at SD pricing is generally considered Slick.

Also, if he's into setting up wifi/ethernet functionality, this unit is just under today's level of interconnectivity. Then again, you'd know better if he's into more basic setups.

Good luck.

Also, I'm looking for a small surround sound system for my lower level. After the $25 off I got it for $275. I can't imagine it's a bad deal..

HK is pure quality. I have a 20 yr old AVR system with JBL surrounds. Awesome system never a problem. HK bought out JBL yrs ago. Use this for the bedroom, Bose LS48 for living room. And my AVR was about a grand back then. JBL's $1500
