Vizio 40 Inch 2.0-Channel Home Theater Sound Bar (SB4020E-B0C) troubles

This soundbar has an optical audio port but my cable cannot fit into the port because the two stereo ports partially block it. Does my particular cable just happen to have a thicker head? I only have one cable to try but before I buy a second one I need to know if the size of the housing around the tip of the cable varies between manufacturers by a lot

Also,I have an issue where the sound will fade out and in during a show if the scene starts to get quiet. It's as if the soundbar doesn't always sense sound from the source, it will automatically quiet itself for some reason. I have it connected to the stereo port in the back of my HTPC and while watching some shows, the sound will go very low briefly and then back up to normal. I tried adjusting some computer settings but it doesn't seem to have fixed anything.

As far as the cable some can have different sizes of jackets on them. Without pictures it can be hard to say. You can usually shave it down with a knife carefully if its rubber like material. For the other issue are there any settings in the soundbar. Wondering if it's like a autopower off setting.

The soundbar will automatically turn off if there is no sound going to it. But my problem is while watching a show or movie, the sound will just fade really low during a quiet scene. It's kind of the opposite of what it seems like it should be where I would expect it to quiet itself during loud scenes and make itself louder during quite scenes.

I ordered another toslink cable for like $2 from Amazon (some Chinese generic). I'll see if that fits in the port. I am wondering if that will help my problem at all and maybe even improve the sound over the provided headphone jack cable that splits into Left and Right inputs.
