Backlit keyboard not working

I have a Dell Inspiron 15z 5523. Up until now I didn't know my laptop had a backlit keyboard. (I didn't know that the picture on the f6 key was for this purpose). When pressing fn+f6 nothing happens. I found a link that suggested me going to c:/program files/dell/quickset and clicking BacklitKB.exe. When I click this, I get a window that says "unable to detect the backlight keyboard". I went to Dell's website and downloaded the latest drivers for my keyboard and installed them. After restarting the computer I still don't have backlit keyboard. Then I tried re-installing the QuickSet program from Dell and that didn't work. When I open quickset.exe I'm prompted with an error "Error found! Submit this issue to Quickset owner" but then the Windows mobility center still opens up. I'm now out of ideas of how to fix it.

I'm typing this on the laptop so my keyboard is not malfunctioning, just the backlight funtion.

Hitting up the dell forums might be a good idea, they are fairly active. Last resort contact dell?
