Lowest Price ever for New Blu-Ray @ Amazon

The 6 Disc SE is considered the best set of the Planet Earth packages (according to most Slickdeals threads I have read)

Comparison to the 2007 5 disc version:

2007 5 disc version Pros:
-typically a few dollars cheaper (as of 8/10 $21.44)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SKNIWE/

2007 5 disc version Cons:
- lesser audio
- missing commentaries
- missing Behind Scenes Diaries
- lack of about 6-8 hours of HD material

As long as I don't have to hear Oprah Winfrey's annoying voice narration. Hopefully the original recordings and all copies have been destroyed.

I have the 4 disc with Attenborough. Wonder what the difference is as Amazon has the run time for both at 9:10. Must include some special features and such?

The PE episodes are the same length. Check the links given for the details

The Special Editions have a massive amount of other material not included in the run time including 6 full length HD episodes of Natural World and PE:The Future, 110 minutes of the Behind the Scenes diaries (these are upscaled SD, but that's how they aired intially) that aired at the end of each episode. I think there are at least 10 hours of material not included on the original release plus the upgrade audio, multiple audio commentaries, etc.

The only real 'downside' to the SE is they went back to the original 1080i video instead of the fudged 1080p that were on the original discs, but upgraded to 50GB discs instead of 25Gb. There are some improvements and downsides to the video change though overall except for the people who shout p vs i like it's the end-all (the spec whores basically) it's pretty much a wash and most people don;t notice much diff unless you're doing a A/B screen comp. Realize that the original video is now pushing 15 years old done on rather primitive HD (and some SD) equipment and is limited at the source.
