I googled for a while w/o clarification. Can someone help me figure out if the Plextor drive will read 3-D blu-ray? I want to rip my 3-D blu-rays and just want to make sure there isn't such a thing as a drive that only reads standard blu-ray, but no 3-D blu-ray.

Also, this price is the same as it went on sale for last month. Good price, but could go lower if they wanted to clear these out.

pretty sure the 3d aspect of blue ray is just in the picture, not a special aspect of the coding

With the various methods and means that they finish ("lock down") a Blu-ray, its hard to tell if the secret sauce is in the coding or the processing. If it were in the processing, I wouldn't imagine the effect would be nearly as impressive because the player itself would have to be very good. Most 2D-to-3D converters are not as impressive as natively sourced 3-D, so I would presume a 3D Blu-ray is coded differently than a 2D disc. Also, not every Blu-ray player supports 3D, so I'm just trying to cover my bases here and make sure I'm not buying a paperweight.

I need a Blu-ray drive capable of reading 3D Blu-rays for backup. I've got the software solution, I just want to make sure the reader doesn't have to have a special chipset or some other gotcha. If someone can find this info for me, I would be most appreciative. I don't have time to hunt for what I would hope would be in the specification tab.

Since the drive is 6x capable, yes, it can play 3-D Blu-rays, provided you have the proper hardware and software (i.e. CyberLink PowerDVD 15 Ultra).

Here is a more in-depth answer: LINK [tomshardware.com]

Also, the Plextor deal is now LIVE.

Amazon also price matched the Crucial Ballistix RAM. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/...PDKIKX0DER

Could be a better deal if you can get it tax free and/or combine it with Discover 10%
