Where do you find deals for Internet+phone (landline); dont know whee to start. Baytown, Tx areea

I have been with Verizon for about 10 years, and have not really been happy, but when we moved here they were the only option. Now they have raised our rates again so we are paying $101 for DSL internet + land line phone (double what we payed when we moved in, with a 10 yr old modem that has occasional problems and they refuse to send us a new one without charging us $40). Speeds have been abysmal: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4574366196

I have had enough but I don't know where to go to find deals in my area.
I don't even know where to get started. Where can I go to compare plans and prices? Searches have only led me to spammy websites.

Also, a friend has Comcast and gets really fast internet service but when I put my address in the Comcast website (even though it pops as I'm typing it) it says that the address is not valid. What does that even mean? We've lived here for 10 years.

I live in zip 77523, east of Baytown, Tx in Mont Belvieu. It's a semi rural area, so there might not be much choice.

Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. It's my first time shopping around since when we moved here there was only one provider in the area.

In searching, it says Comcast / Xfinity service is available in your area. http://www.xfinity.com/locations/...lvieu.html

Keep in mind, if you don't mind paying up front for a few items, you can save in rental fees. Items such as:
1) Cable Modem
2) VOIP Telephone service. OOMA is the top rated service with free unlimited calling in the US. Don't get this with your current internet speeds though.
A VOIP service like OOMA eliminates the need for an old school land line. If you have a good internet connection the only cost is the price of the unit, and the monthly taxes which is around $5.

Are you planing to get tv service as well or just use free antenna channels?

If you do go with Comcast, keep in mind they generally have a 2 year contract. Their rates will raise at the end of the two years unless you call to go under another 2 year contract.

Good Luck.
