Windows 10 App?

chowell8 10 10 August 12, 2015 at 07:44 AM
Hello,
Now that Windows 10 has been released to the public on PCs/tablets (with Windows 10 released to phones within a couple of months), are there any plans for Slickdeals to develop a true Windows 10 app that is not merely the wrapped mobile website?

Thanks in advance,
CH

I was hoping for the same. I really enjoy the iPhone app, would love to see a nice app on my surface.

I don't know whether you are still interested in this topic or whether SD will ever get serious about making a true Windows app, but I've tried making the suggestion in the Feature Requests sticky thread at:
http://slickdeals.net/e/6289894-mobile-app-feedback-feature-requests?p=78899944#post78899944

Not sure if it will make a difference with them or not, but it probably wouldn't hurt if everyone reading this thread marks my comment at the link above as "Helpful."

Hi Guys - We do not currently have plans to create a Windows app. That said, as Windows devices increase adoption (which they are), then we will revisit. The issue now is that we have a small team and want to keep the Android and iOS versions of the app moving forward - we just don't have the bandwidth to build a new app on a new platform (and we'd want to do it right, as you mentioned).

Mobile Web is getting really good by the way - I'd recommend that as the best way to access Slickdeals from a Windows device (though tablets display desktop site). Anyhow I appreciate the feedback, this is on the radar!

Thanks for the reply. Not being an app developer myself, I do not totally follow you on the bandwidth comment unless you are merely referencing limited resources/personnel. If that is the case, maintenance may still be an issue going forward, but Microsoft offers a bridge which allows iOS mobile developers to port their apps over to the Windows ecosystem: https://dev.windows.com/en-us/bridges/ios.

Alternately, there have been Windows Phone developers who have created their own app for Slickdeals, but they have been limited on their ability to create a robust app because of the lack of APIs as described in this post: http://slickdeals.net/e/6708236-slickdeals-windows-phone-app?. Might you guys be interested in releasing those APIs in the absence of an official Slickdeals app?
