What is Price Tracker Chrome Extension?

The Price Tracker Chrome extension is a new addition to the popular Price Tracker tool we've created to provide users with instant access to a product's price history and historical data while shopping. It's currently a Beta extension with support from over 50 popular stores including Newegg, Walmart, and Target.

Features:
  • Instant access to a product's price history and current known low price as you browse the web
  • Over 50 supported stores, including Newegg, Walmart, and Target
  • Instant notifications when prices drop below a configurable price threshold
  • Track your favorite products and monitor them directly on Slickdeals

It's Easy!

Once you've installed the extension and are logged into Slickdeals, simply visit one of your favorite stores from our supported stores list and click on the Slickdeals icon in the main Chrome toolbar to the right of the address bar to summon the Price Tracker information. This includes the product's price history graph along with information and links to direct you to the store with the lowest known price. You also have the option to save the product to your list of trackers on Slickdeals and be notified of future price drops.

Price Tracker Extension

Configuring the Extension

We've made the extension very configurable so you can set its notifications to your preference. By default, the least intrusive version is enabled where you'll need to click the SD logo in your extension toolbar to see Price Tracker information. You also have access to options allowing you to enable a more prominent "toolbar" version that pins itself to the top of your browser window when you're viewing a product page at a supported store. We can also show an instant alert if you view a product and Price Tracker knows there's a lower price elsewhere. All of these settings can be configured by clicking the cog icon on the top right of the Price Tracker window when you click the SD logo in the extension bar.

Instant Notifications

You may receive instant notifications to find the best deal quickly across all of our 50+ supported stores so you don't miss out on lower prices at other stores.

Instant Notifications

One-Click Item Tracking

With our one-click track button you can instantly add your favorite products to your tracked products list. Once an item has been added to Price Tracker you can configure your alert price and get an instant notification of any price drops that dip below your set price in the future.

One-Click Item Tracking

More Updates to Come

We're constantly working to improve both Price Tracker and the browser extension to add more supported stores and track prices more reliably. Remember, this extension is a Beta release, so it's possible you'll encounter minor bugs when using it. If you run into any issues, please report any bugs or suggestions in this thread.

Please use this Wikipost to list your initial feedback/feature requests/bugs/issues. Thanks - yuugotservedQuoted from bryantq later on in this thread:
Thanks for your feedback all! We're starting with Chrome because chrome extensions are easier, and almost 60% of our users are on Chrome compared to 14% of users on Firefox, which is why we prioritized the chrome extension first. It will allow us to get quick feedback, find the bugs, get your feedback and improve the tool. Once it's out of beta and if people like it, I'm sure we'll get a firefox version out too.

Some people have been asking about whether or not we track you or something. We do not track the websites you visit and we definitely do not keep a history or anything like that. We definitely do not use the data for any other purpose than using it to power the tool and the Slickdeals services that support it. However, we do use cookies to track if you're logged into slickdeals, and obviously if you're on a supported store's website, we have to see what page you're on to check to see if its a product and if there's a price history to go with it. This is a one time call based on the page you're on, and after the extension has checked the price - we dont store it. furthermore, the extension only cares when you're on a supported store's domain (ie browsing at amazon.com, or newegg.com - the tool does not do anything when you're on non-supported domains like yahoo.com or reddit.com or something).

Secondly, someone asked if we're automatically "skimming" and the answer is no. We do not automatically rewrite all urls as you browse the web. However, if you interact with the tool, I believe we may use our own links. For instance if you're browsing around and we find another lower price, we'll use slickdeals links when we point you to a lower price at a different store.

In general, we're working hard with this new extension and we're going to continue to improve it with your feedback and get even more features out. Your feedback and requests will directly impact what we do next for this tool. We could do cool things like suggest coupons when you're on a store's checkout page, or suggest related frontpage deals as you browse. Open to new ideas too Smilie
