It's that a single use code? It worked fine until order review and then I got an error message from it.

is this worth getting? I thought I read somewhere that the transcoding on this thing isnt that good and a non play version was cheaper and better.

transcoding is a-ok. I have the 415play. I believe they're similar.

I missed that the code is ONLY for Visa checkout. That made it work fine.

I've had the ds212j for a few years and it really is a great device. I'm happy to upgrade for the price so thanks, op.

DS214play features 1080p Full HD video transcoding on the fly.
Do I have to use their app or can I install plex and get it to transcode 1080p?

Was looking at this... any reason to choose this over QNAP TS-251? Looks like you can upgrade RAM on the QNAP, but would I need more RAM on something like this? Just want to serve up media and also use it to do torrenting. I don't care about HDMI.

Looks better. I've heard software for Windows, Mac OS X and iOS is better from Synology

Synology's UI is miles ahead of Qnap (and to be honest, any other NAS/SAN vendor, including the big names.) Qnap's cheaper at the bottom end for the same (more or less) specs, but I think you'd be happier using the Synology box.

FWIW I'm very happy with Synology's higher-end products. We recommend them to our business units that require big dumb relatively static Windows file storage (for example, our Marketing department's media collections) and don't want to pay $20/GB for space on the SAN.

This is a great price...

But I bought a 215j for $200:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...-_-Product

I used to have a 211j. Moving from a single core to a dual core made a huge difference on performance.

I stream 4k movies over an AC wireless network without issue on my 215j.

So I am dubious on what the 214play offers for 50% more money; because as noted the trans-coding gets poor reviews.
