Thread Details

I was just on a thread in "Hot Deals" where the OP posted a link to a $20 Superman Silver Coin. I even posted a comment on that thread and now I can't find it. Was the thread deleted by a Mod?

One of the people (sorry, don't remember his name) claimed that the coins were not worth $20 CAD and that the melt down value of the silver was less than $3.00. I contacted the Royal Canadian Mint and was told via chat that the coin is pure silver and that it is worth the face value of the coin. Were they lying to me?

Here's the old URL to the SD thread. http://slickdeals.net/f/8045445-20-00-superman-coin-canadian-limit-of-5-sh-for-us

Chat Transcript:
you: is the coin actually worth $20 in silver value?
Marshall: yes it is
you: So, just to be clear, the coin is pure silver. No other metals have been mixed in?
Marshall: exactly

How would I check to make sure the coin is actually pure silver?

z If it is a real government mint, believe them. If it is "National Mint" or something like that, it might be plate over some other metal.

Less than 8 grams silver. You are short 20 some grams to make an ounce.
