Great bang for the buck. Unlocked Haswell. Overclocks easily to 4.0GHz on stock cooler (not sure why Intel rates this as only 3.2GHz). Picked up one recently on a similar Frys deal ($44 iirc, plus compatible MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate motherboard for $9). Only wish it was available for shipping too.

At this point, you should be holding for SKYLAKE.

Without context, that's a meaningless statement. You could ALWAYS wait out for the next gen of any product w/ better specs, AND higher price.

We're talking about a chip made early last year folks. Skylake will be here in the next few months and requires a completely diff motherboard.

Skylake is already out but no one knows when a comparable chip in the skylake line will be available. People going for this cpu aren't likely the same looking for the latest and greatest.

If you have some inside knowledge, I'd like to know about the $50 skylake chip that is coming out in the future.

So? 95% of the deals on SD are based on stuff that's last year's model, old stock, soon to be replaced w/ next gen, etc. That's why it's a deal! You ain't gettin' a deal on the new Skylake processors either until they're 12 months old. And you're right back to the same argument.

Frys website/employees have their head up their **you know**. The promo code entered correctly says

"The Promo Code entered is either invalid or does not apply to any item in your cart."

If I enter something else from their daily promo with my code it takes the rebate and shows it on the screen. I also see a bluetooth HP Z6000 mouse but when you click the add, it says they can't find it on their website. If you search their website for HP Z6000 mouse it will not find it.

I agree about your characterization of Frys (LOL), but in this case I think the promo code doesn't work for this CPU because the deal is in-store only. IOW, if you want it shipped, you're paying full price! Otherwise, head down to Frys and take the promo code w/ you, they'll apply it there.

Btw, that's why I didn't TU the deal, in-store only. I suppose there's always a chance this could change later in the day (has happened before).
