Not anymore in my local store. I did about 5 times in the past but they refused me last month.

A few months ago people tried this and were charged a $10 fee by their credit card companies because this was presented as a cash withdrawal by the merchant.

Same seller on ebay.

I had a tough time getting that $10 charge off my card, even after cancelling the order.

Cancelling the order only refunded the purchase amount without reversing the cash advance charge. Paypal/eBay could not do anything about it. My bank was gracious enough to remove that charge on request ... dont think they will extend that courtesy one more time.

Is that problem solved for good?

Yes that is correct. I paid the fees.

This sounds like an OK deal, but I thought Sears.com qualified as a home improvement store for the Discover Quarterly bonus, effectively allowing you to get gift cards for 30% off right now if you signed up for the Discover double cash back offer:

(10% cash back through Discover Deals + 5% quarterly bonus) X 2 = 30%

That being said, getting Amazon GC is YMMV. I've had different employees from the same store either deny or accept the Sears gift cards as a form of payment for other gift cards.
