Wow, with the $150 edu coupon and $25 American Express , total came out to $625 at bestbuy.

Very tempting, but with surface pro 4 coming out in less than 2 months, must resist

I'd hold out for an 8 GB/RAM version to come down in price. While the difference between 128 and 256 GB of storage does matter a little, this version only comes with 4 GB of RAM which will barely get you by these days, or certainly won't for the next two years that you'll want this device for.

The machine I'm currently sitting on is using 4.7 GB of RAM and I have Chrome open with 4x tabs, and a bunch of background tasks. It is hardly difficult to exceed 4 GB now and cause paging (which drains battery, and slows things).

I have the 4gb version and it runs just fine. No bottlenecks or slowdowns. Unless you plan on doing EXTREME memory intensive tasks this version is just fine and a good deal. I had 10 Chrome tasks open along with MS Word and there weren't any slowdowns or lags

Yup, if/when the 8 gig model gets near this price, I'm all over it.

More then EXTREME tasks, I think 8 GB would be norm in a year or 2. You want to think from long term perspective, especially when we invest this much amount.

You wouldn't know if there were, since you don't have the 8 GB version for comparison. For you the normal day to day speed might be slower than the 8 GB version's day to day speed.

Extreme? I have four Chrome tabs open on Windows 10 and am exceeding 4 GB. Is four Chrome tabs considered extreme? It is extremely easy to exceed 4 GB of RAM usage, in fact it is harder to stay under it running Office, Chrome, and other basic desktop software now.

From what I've seen utilisation in 2014-15 seems to be between 4.0 - 6.0 GB for desktop utilisation, and 6.0+ for things like games, photo/video editing suites, Visual Studio, and other bloaty or expensive software.

I'm never buying a machine with 4 GB again, my idle usage almost exceeds that.

That you know of... Again, if you had both sitting side by side, I bet you'd start noticing the sub-second delays as memory was recalled from the page file as you multi-tasked.

Getting i5 with 4 GB would be out dated...not i7 with 8 GB.

And those who are keen on keeping up to date with latest technology, would buy right when they are released. Not wait for price to come down, especially after almost 15 months laugh out loud

I guess it's a good deal if you just consider its msrp, but really this is how much this version should cost from the beginning.

And you're still spending another $130 for the keyboard cover.
