Selling Dell Venue Pro 8

I am selling my DVP8 and have been having thoughts about resetting to factory with all the issues I had with wireless, display etc. I have installed win 10 and it is working great on the tablet. I never did much on it anyway but wondering if I can't just set up and new user and delete my profile instead of resetting to factory. It will take forever to do all the updates and troubleshoot any new issues when restoring to factory. I ma also concerned if I restore to factory when he turns it on he will not really get a feeling for the tablet because it will be doing setup after the restore.

Is there an easier way?

Can't you restore to factory default and then run updates (without creating a login)?

After ordering a deal immediately delete your deal alert. You got your item; you don't want it shipped with a side of remorse.

no and as I said these first came out there were lots of issues with wifi and graphics. I don't care to go through these again.

Deleting your profile isn't secure. I would not sell a machine without it. Best would be a full format with something like DBAN, rebuild etc.

Pretty sure you can do it without a microsoft account http://www.baldnerd.com/install-w...t-account/

The early driver issues are most likely worked out. Those old bad versions should have mostly been replaced at this point with working versions.

Kind of hard to upgrade without an account to upgrade from. it is the upgrade that is free and not a new account.

This is rather painful to do if you want to be completely secure by using dbam. The tablet has a partition for restoring and if you wipe it, it is a massive pain to restore everything since that tablet has issues with installing from usb while not charging from USB.

I sold mine before the "fix" came out for it which allowed this so I can't tell you how well it actually works. This is what stopped me from beta testing Win10 on it. I thought the Win10 upgrade destroys that restore partition. Hopefully, it makes a new one for 10 but I am not sure.

In Windows 8 there is the option on restore to do a full reset. This will give you something close to dban where it will attempt to wipe all memory in a single pass. Depending on how comfortable you are with what info is on there I would suggest this option. Hopefully it exists in Windows 10, if not you may as well go the dban route since you will need to install from USB to get back to 8 anyway.

FYI if it's an SSD in there and you didn't have encryption turned on then even DBAN may leave data that can be retrieved by someone with significant enough resources

Double check that, pretty sure you can do a format back to 10 and be fine without adding the account.

you can install windows 10 w/o a Ms account but not 8. 8 is what came on the DVP so it is only right that when sold it had win 8 on it.

So upgrade to 10 and then do your Reload of 10. No need to go back to 8.

Either way you could create a local account on W8 too http://www.hanselman.com/blog/How...lUser.aspx

Basically what your looking to do is totally possible, yes it requires some work but it's the only secure way to protect your data when you sell a machine. Good luck

Create a new profile, delete your profile. Then start a cmd prompt with admin rights, and run command chiper /w:C

http://www.windowsecurity.com/art...erexe.html

this command with /W switch will wipe all the unused area in the drive by writign oo on the disk but will not touch the data that is already there.
