Plastc card just announced that you get 2 plastc cards for the price of one (pre-order by 08/25/15) and free subscription for the life of the card if you pre-order by April 2016.

The card is advertised for $155 but you can easily do a quick Google search and find a referral code online for $20 off. good deal for a gift for a friend or a spare for the future. *mod edit - Referrals are not allowed on SD, so do NOT post or offer one, even via PM*

Some answers to some of the questions I read in the thread I know of...please correct me if I am misstating:

What is the life of the card (aka when do i start paying a subscription fee)?
Plastc is charging a $50/year subscription fee for those who buy the card after it is released in Apr 2016. However, if you pre-ordered, you don't have to pay the subscription fee for the life of the card. Plastc claims it is a 2 year battery in the card after which the battery or card has to be replaced. I would be hesitant about replacing the card at that point as they might throw on the subscription fee after that on you. If the battery is replaced, you still own the same card.

What if the card breaks?
If the card breaks or stops working within 2 years, they replace it for free as it is under warranty for 2 years. Yes, the replacement card has no subscription fee for the life of the replacement. If it breaks after two years, you will have to pay for a replacement and likely be charged a subscription fee.

EMV support?
EMV is a chip that you see on a lot of credit cards nowadays. It is a much safer technology and is becoming increasingly more common in America (used frequently in Europe and Asia). The competitor Coin does not offer this technology. Currently, Plastc claims only Mastercard works with the EMV chip. Visa and Amex are not yet supported. After release of this card, however, I'm sure more ppl will start using the card and Visa and Amex will support the card/EMV chip.

What payment types does the card offer?
The card has the standard magnetic strip credit cards have, it has NFC for payment via proximity to the sensor (similar to Apple Pay), has a barcode for use with gift cards or loyalty that are scannable, has EMV chip support for Mastercard.

How many cards can I put on the plastc card?
Up to 20 credit cards, loyalty cards, gift cards, debit cards, etc. Can even be used as a key fob for work (idk how it works tho)

How long does the battery last before charging?
Plastc claims it lasts up to 30 days under typical usage before recharging. It charges wirelessly I believe via QI . It will ship with a charging pad.

How do I claim the second free card if I pre-ordered before 08/26/15?
Stay tuned, I read that on Plastcs Facebook page that they will be posting a link to claim the 2nd card after 08/26/15 and before April 2016. I know that's quite poor communication but they are working on the system to get the link out there. I will modify the OP with instructions when the link to claim is posted.

Does the free card have subscription fees?
No not for the life of the card... even if you gift it away or keep it for yourself as a spare.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

This looks very cool. My question about it would be .... do I still get all of the rewards that are associated with each of the cards I add to it? I assume so, but not sure. For example, I get 2% back on groceries when I use my Bank of America card at Kroger. Does the transaction show up on my Bank of America card statement as being processed by Kroger or by Plastic Card? If anybody knows, Thanks!

I'm pretty sure what the card does is mimic the magnetic strip of the cards you add to it. So any cards that you use on it will show up on the respective bills of each card like you used the original card.

My guess would be that they process as a pass thru merchant. The mag stripe on the card just tells the plastic system which user you are (based on standard cc rules). Plastic then uses that info to determine which "card" is showing and where to pass thru as an ACH.

Changing the mag stripe to match each card seems like a lot of unnecessary work/overhead.

Overall, I would say the transaction will show up as a plastic and not kroger to BOA(something like Plastic-Kroger). Plastic will keep track of the actual merchant used.

More info is definitely needed.

From their website:
Plastc Card can store any magnetic stripe card, immediately, and has its own magnetic stripe so you can use it like a traditional card.
So it looks like it mimics the magnetic stripe, acting as if you used the original card, not as a pass through service.

Coin was a similar card and idea. It was supposed to ship like 1+ year ago. I'll buy it when it's physically released and available, and not based on a company's optimism.

For what it's worth, Coin has been shipping out this summer. I pre-ordered a while back but canceled due to all their delays. Twitter feedback seems decent for most.

the benefit is for early supporters. So it's anyone that has pre-ordered until 8/25/15. I had ordered 2 way back when. So I will be getting 2 additional cards and they too will be subscription free.

Supposedly coin doesn't support the emv chip so it will be null and void a couple years down the road when all cards have chips.

Oh ok. I was very interested in coin when it was announced. I went back on their website before I posted and it still said pre-order.
