Exterior Doors

garstud 238 52 August 20, 2015 at 02:14 PM
I am looking for a high end exterior door and I'm mystified on how to shop for one.

Ideally I'd like a full wall of doors like this. I have no idea how much they cost, I'd like to stay under $3k.

Any suggestions on how to find and price shop for a door like this?

Thank you.
Gary

You are more likely to win the lottery than finding a wall of those doors for under $3k. Those type specifically are very expensive. From what I have seen due to different sizes of everyone's walls they are usually custom. A mid-level average size french door with small side lights is probably gonna run you $3k even.

Have you looked on Angie's List? I've found some great deals on there. I think there's a discount somewhere on SD. Worth every penny, imo. I found this here, it’s a couple of years old, but give it a try. I think it's around $10 a year normally.I found ce AWESOME40 on SD for 40% off the annual cost. There's some good other CB sites available as well. Or use code SAVE20 which is a new code good until the end of August.
Recently, our A/C went out and it was 109 here in Murrieta, CA. I looked on AL and found an awesome local company that was honest and really did good work.Forget Yelp - it's such a scam. I also subscribe to the doctors and dentists on Angie's which has been helpful. Hope this helps. We're looking for a single entry door ourselves.

Sorry to go on and on, I just really like AL - obviously.

The folding doors...are those Anderson doors (the folding patio doors)? I saw those somewhere. We've been pricing/shopping for doors for a few weeks now. Fun. Not. Depends on the size opening you have but you're probably not going to get away with a folding door like that for under 3K. You need to get out there and get some estimates.

We are replacing some exterior doors right now and there was some major sticker shock initially. Keep your eye on sales of doors at the major retailers - that will help reduce the cost.

Obviously you need to know the size you need (rough opening, width of your wall etc) and then you can head over to places like Home Depot, Lowes, Lumber Yards etc to get pricing/estimates. If you're working with a contractor, you might be able to get the name of a salesman for doors from them - the two people we got names from our contractor - their prices were significantly higher than what we could get at Lowes/Home Depot. So were the smaller lumber yards in our area. YMMV

We ultimately ended up purchasing at Home Depot (Anderson). If you order from them - after you get your quote, ask them if they can send your order to the 'bid desk' - where they review it and can possibly give you a discount. We save over $3K that way on the doors we were buying.

We also purchased gift cards to Home Depot at a discount...paid for the doors that way, saved $ that way.
