WARNING!
If you are wanting to unlock the phone so a SIM from another carrier can be used to say for example to be able to use the ATT Note 4 right away with T-Mobile... / road test it on T-mo or MNVO...

REQUEST THE SIM UNLOCK CODE AS A "NON-ATT CUSTOMER" VIA THE ONLINE UNLOCK FORM BEFORE, I REPEAT BEFORE ACTIVATING THE PHONE!

IF YOU GO THIS ROUTE IT WILL GREATLY INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF BEING SENT THE UNLOCK CODE.
IF YOU ACTIVATE, YOUR UNLOCK CODE REQUEST WILL GET DENIED.

*Note: it is unclear if those that have been able to receive the code paid for the phone outright..
*ATT requirements are device must be paid for in full /ETF paid before they will provide unlock code, unless you are active military on deployment.

(For me when I requested the code, after I had activated on a 2yr contract... in which ATT has my SS number and I am LOCKED into a contract and they can DING MY CREDIT if they don't get paid I received a message and was told upon calling CS device had to be paid for in full / ETF fee would have to be paid first.)

Understandable, then again with SS number ATT could ding up your credit... and they could sue you if you flaked out on them.

I believe you have to surrender your phone when you switch to TMobile with ETF paid for.

Only for installment plan repayment. You can trade in any working smartphone for regular contract ETF repay.
